“KEY NOT DETECTED” error after new battery
Back2Golf replied to DaveRRR's topic in VW Golf R MK7 Chat
Did you ever get any further with this? My 2016 R has just started doing it too. Wont start keyless but does if you hold the fob next to the steering column, but dash message says Change key battery (it was a new battery). On one occasion so far (only just started doing it) I also got the transmission error - you could put it in gear (DSG) but it was like neutral and just revved, reverse or fwd gear. Turned it off and on again and it seemed fine. I then locked and unlocked the car using the button on the key fob and so far that seems to have fixed it - but early days... Be interested to hear if you got to the bottom of it... -
Anyone got/tried an RFID wallet for your keyless go keys? Seem like a pretty simple and cost effective option for stopping nobbers being able to nick your car using relay boxes... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Keyless-Entry-Signal-Blocker-Faraday/dp/B071ZGGRD1

B4494 Newbury to Wantage. 15 miles of fun right there. Bit further west B4000 Lambourn to Shrivenham. Quite a way to go from Windsor tbh and there must be good stuff closer to you but - if you're out that way deffo worth a little detour 😉 Check em out on Google street view before hand....

I did not know that! -
The Tonight program on itv... increase in car thefts.
Back2Golf replied to 8YARWY's topic in General Chat
Saw a bit of that - the numbers are ridiculous! Thing is it must be the same gangs doing it, I can't believe there's that many car thieves around. I'm gonna sound like a right wing activist but seriously, until they start punishing these fuckers harshly it will continue. For a start why can't the po po run them over when they ditch the car to leg it? Works in the states and if you're crippled it'll stop you doing it again. If you're caught and three others in the car get away, you have to serve their sentences too (not concurrently) unless you give the popo their identities and they are caught. Personally I'd shoot the fuckers but I know that's a frowned upon attitude - they just need a hug after all. -
From a mechanical point of view they'd struggle I'm sure, however, I wonder how many people have had to get their kids to connect their phone to the car or help with some other techie stuff? Maybe not many on this site to be fair cos we all like cars (!) but my point is, we had to learn about alternators, chokes, double declutching etc etc but to be honest I'm almost getting to the point where there's so much tech in the car these days there's even more to cope with. Certainly ALOT more distractions. Makes me chuckle that they make cars with all these 'driver's aids' for auto wipers, auto lights, ACC, lane assist etc etc then fill them with tech that distracts you, there's even four ways to change gear in DSG cars ffs not to mention 4 or 5 driving modes! I've had my R about 3 weeks now and just about gone through all the menu options on car setup, satnav prefs, getting all the logos for the DAB radio stations and installing them - the list goes on. So, yes I reckon the yoof would freak out if confronted by a pre-90's car but at the same time they probably have more to learn on a car these days than we ever had.

May have already been mentioned (this is a looong thread)! With stop/start activated and you're stationary (engine stopped) with auto hold on, when you're ready to move, just 'tap' the accelerator to wake the car up and disengage the autohold - literally just a quick tap, it starts up and will roll forward very slowly - I find this allows you to pull away smoother without that annoying sudden jerkiness you get if you just pull away straight from an engine off/auto hold on situation.
-
Back to the OP: Tried my LC for the first time last week - hahahaha. The acceleration is great but it's that initial jump off the line that got me - there's no scrabbling or clutch slipping or squealing tyres - basically no drama, no energy wasted - just immediate speed. It's probably just as well you have to use it sparingly as I'd be doing it all the time otherwise!!!

Maybe you hit something? Possible if you had your eyes shut like I do on launch!

What he said. New air filter's a few quid and might make all the difference - you'll never get around the fact it's not a v6 so you have to be realistic but air filter / induction kit / exhaust will all help and save you a lot of money too (not just in swapping to the RS but in running costs longer term). Failing that, if it's literally just the sound you're worried about stick a hole in your exhaust - worked for all my old cars and won't cost a bean!!!!

Blimey that's commitment. There a dude round here appears to be doing the same thing, only he's set his sights a little lower and appears to reside in a black Honda Jazz that's semi-permanently parked in one of two laybys. #Livingthedream.

Mini (boy racered up and great fun) Citroen AX (mistake) Corsa SRi (fond memories) Golf VR6 (few mods - sounded awesome) Suzuki GSXR400R (couple less wheels - jus for fun) Golf GTi (MkIV - bit rubbish) Golf GTi (MkV - not rubbish at all) Mercedes C180 kompressor (boring and slow) Mercedes C250 AMG Sport (much less boring, much less slow) KTM Duke 390 (fun for the summer) Golf R (MkVII - sweet as F**k)
-
45. The R is my 4th Golf, after a VR6 which I tweaked a bit - with some help from AMD 😉 and 2 GTIs (MkIV was crap, MkV was ace). Had a couple of Mercs for the last 4 years but now back to a Golf - wanted to get back to petrol and something 4WD and quick - R fitted the bill! Got to say I love it - it really does make me laugh out loud everytime I gun it. Until I get a speeding ticket - then I'll hate it. Stoopid car.

Not 100% sure BUT, I have a late 15 plate and as such it has the remainder of the VW manufacturer's warranty AND 12 months DasWelt so, as far as the dealers are concerned they're two different warranties (mine was in for a minor rattle recently and they mentioned both warranties would cover it). I think DasWelt is a 3rd party provider or a division of VW so not actual manufacturer's warranty but manfacturer approved. I think DasWelt is pretty comprehensive - or as good as you're gonna get outside of a full manufacturer's warranty.

Is GT Sport a prelude to the next full GT? Seem to recall they did that with GT5? Played that to death so I hope there is a new GT coming soon - and that the cars don't sound shit like they do in GT5. They better get on with it otherwise all the current cars will be electric and there'll only be wind & tyre noise! #boring.

That doesn't sound like your usual US customer service....
-
Urgh bloody hell that sounds like a right pain - ah well, as long as I have proof it's been serviced properly and regularly I'll settle for that. - Duplicate sticker in the boot.... is that usual? Could be handy.

Cheers Fella, Very weird you can't get one from VW but they are available on eBay... where do the eBayers get them from? Anyway, I'm less bothered about it looking like the original as long as I have a record of it's history. I tend to PX my cars rather than sell privately and dealers don't seem to be bothered about history (at least proof of) when you PX. The VW dealer I bought it from did the first (long life) service so they will stamp the book for me so I haven't missed any either. I can imagine if getting a book was hard then getting the sticker was a nightmare!!!!! Kind of hoping the dealer will sort it - part of the reason I went down the dealer route rather than an independent. Fingers X'd. Glad you got yours sorted anyway. Good work.
-
Cheers folks, that's probably all the ammo I need, 👍 so assuming the original service book doesn't exist (otherwise it would have been with the car right?) - presumably there is a process for getting a new one issued...? Any thoughts?... the car has only done 11,500 miles and was on a long life service schedule so it's first service was only due this coming December (first registered Dec '15) so it hasn't 'missed' any - just want it recorded and if it should have a book I'll need it wen t comes time to sell.

Do you also own a Mercedes or know someone that does?

Chopped my C Class in for my R last week -
Can I just check - I bought a 65 reg R last week (from a VW dealer) but it didn't have a service book with it - is this normal or should there be a physical book with stamps in it? My last 2 cars were Mercs and they do it all electronically now so I haven't had an actual service book for 4 years. The dealer said it's all electronic now but I've just booked it in for some work at my local dealer and they said have your service book available....????

Hi Chaps, Had my R just under a week and proper loving it, however, I was out at the weekend on a few errands so a series of short trips hopping from shop to shop and noticed the engine has developed a (fairly subtle but noticeable from the inside) 'tick, tick, tick' at idle. It was fine to start with but on the 3rd start the noise was there. It drives fine and whether the tick stops after 15mph ish or you just can't hear it anymore because of road/wind/engine noise is hard to say... anyway, drove it home (about 7 miles) with no probs, gave it a clean and left it a few hours. Starting it up again, the noise seems to have gone so whether it was just a one off or an intermittent noise that's going to get worse over time it's really hard to say. With this limited info - anybody got any thoughts on what this might be and how concerned I should be before going back to the dealer... It's definitely engine related as opposed to something in the tyre ( I was stationery and it was still audible).
