Start/stop

The stop/stop on my DSG R is a real pain. Is there any way I can turn it off permanently? At the moment I forget to turn it off when I start driving and the engine stops at the first junction. It's really slow to react and the steering goes heavy just as I pull way.

Any suggestions gratefully appreciated? Do I need someone with Vagcom?

Disable it with eitehr VCDS as mentioned or OBDeleven.  The latter is a sort of VCDS lite that enables you to do this and a host of other tweaks.  Worth considering if you think there might be other adpatations you want to make.  Info on it here.

And the coding required for diasbling Stop/Start.

There's a gizmo that i've seen on ebay too for £30 that allows you to have it on or off... its basically a memory module that remembers its last state ie. if you turn it off, it stays off regardless, until you turn it back on - even if you turn the car off an on again.

I'm hoping @TLining or someone else will be able to help me out for a beer token in the near future as it's also doing my nut in.

Yes it only works on Android.  I just bought a cheapo Android tablet from Argos and use it soley for obdeleven stuff as also apple user/household.  Even with a cheap device factored in it's still a relatively cheap way to do changes.

Controlling the start/stop is better in the manual than the DSG from my experience so understand the OPs frustrations.  The most irritating occasion for me is when you've slowing for lights/queue of traffic and it cuts out before completely stop.

Something I have noticed the DSG does that is good is that when in a queue and the car in front starts moving, the engine kicks in and starts without my pressing a pedal.  I stop mine in D and use autohold just for info.  This then means that by the time it is time for me to start moving, the engine has already kicked in rather than waiting for me to press the accelerator to kick the engine into life and then to start moving, creating a longer delay.  It must use the parking sensors/ACC to tell when the car in front is moving off but I find that pretty good.

As Rebecca suggested just purchase a cheap Android tablet and use this with the obdeleven unit. Purchased mine from Amazon, went for a 7" Lenovo tablet for around the £45 mark if memory serves correct.

It works perfectly with the obd app.

It's a bit 'slow' when compared to my iPad but it does the job when using the obd interface.

The manual does this too, at least in the 7.5. Makes start/stop bearable.
