Revo - Stage 1 - 2019 Golf R Mk7.5 - should I?!

From what I have read, the DQ381 box on my Golf R is serviced at 80k... nothing less. I did ask about it at QuattroTech but they said it was 80k and that he couldn't even get the oil in for it?!?

No idea.

You are pushing your luck waiting until 80k. I think will hope that most cars will be out of warranty by then so they shouldn't get many claims. As for not being able to get the oil??

Whoa!  I wouldn't even contemplate half that distance between DSG services....even on a standard R.

Sounds odd for QT to recommend that; they used to advise me to basically ignore the majority of VW's recommended maintenance schedule.   As for not having the oil?!?! Even if they had none in stock at that moment a TPS delivery would take a matter of hours at most.

EA888 MQB cars like fresh filters and lubes.  I'm sticking to oil service every 5k miles, DSG 25-30k miles and Haldex every 20K miles.  May sound like overkill but it's easier to plan and account for those maintenance costs rather than risk an unexpected and big bill for a major drivetrain issue.

Yeah I thought it was odd too! I would not want to leave it until 80k. That's A LOT of wear on the gearbox at that point.

I think I will enquire again about that but at the garage I had the TCU tune from near Norwich. They were very good and very knowledgeable. They're into racing and track days and certainly knew their stuff.

There’s no way the oil will last 80k.

Apart from the DQ381 I’d still change it at 25-30k as you can imagine the clutch pack material will be building up nicely and will block filters etc especially if launching.

On the DQ250 it’s supposedly changed at 40k but IMO running a tuned car with a lot more torque the cost of the oil is minimal for the longevity of the box.

I changed mine at 19k and will be changing it again at end of the year.

Don’t forget to regularly change the Haldex oil and get them to clean the filter.

I ran Revo stage 1 on my 2019 GPF car for around 3k miles (around 11k in car). Made the car come alive.

went stage 2 around the 14k mark (now 17.5k) when they released it (done a lot to the car) and it has been great since. A guy at the lights in a stage 2 S3 with a decat wanted a little race from the lights and I pulled away from him. Had a chat at the next lights but didn't ask him what tune he had. See him fairly often in my commute to work so will ask him if I get the opportunity.

This is the list of mods I’ve done so far with more due soon

APR intake

APR secondary pipe

APR Turbo elbow

APR turbo muffler delete

Wagner comp core intercooler

Revo charge boost pipe kit

Miltek car back cerakote valved

Valve delete

H&R 25mm lowering springs

Judd T311R wheels

Oettinger spoiler,  oettinger flicks

Dynamic wing mirror indicator

Wind deflectors

Dechrome kit (here but need to install it)

Stage 2 Revo

Paint correction (2 stage) and ceramic

Carbon wing mirrors

Plus some other bits

(Being installed on the weekend) Maxton front lip, side skirt and rear diffuser

TVS stage 2+ TCU tune (April install)

DTUK pedal box

Updated leyo diverter valve with stage 2 spring

Manifold cover

Any tune is a risk but they can be minimised by using reputable brands, tuners and especially mechanics for the maintenance. I am pleased with how the car drives and I don’t tend to kick the daylights out of it all the time.

I know if the turbo went, my hand is in my pocket and am prepared for that. I’ve had work done to the car under warranty (non engine) without issue also.

Cheers

Jon

Hi

Can I ask how fitting the revo charge pipe kit went, any issues to speak of with the 381 7 speed DSG?

Yeah there was an issue with the one pipe. My tuner/garage made a custom pipe for the one as it was causing an issue.

@marshy managed it I’m sure. He installed his own boost pipes/cooler so will have a much better idea than me mate.

Yeah Jon I fitted everything.
The Revo charge pipe kit does fit with the 7 speed ok, in fact the one that was difficult was the opposite side!
The one from the Intercooler to throttle body took ages to get fitted properly.
Easily a diy job but think it took me about 40 mins to do the one over the top of the gearbox and about 3 hours for the other
