Booth11
Following on from above, and probably teaching people to suck eggs here, but to set up your App-Connect (Auto Android or CarPlay) to share a screen with some choice VW system icon links this is a brief guide. From normal main screen below swipe left to get to one of the default split screen options e.g To enter editing mode press down on any of the tiles and this screen will come up with pencil icon top right. To be able to select a different layout and the one you need for the App-connect/VW split, tap the pencil till it turns blue the you have some + icons between each screen. If the layout with one big screen and three small tiles to one side is not already available, swipe left till you get to the last + sign and tap it and you should get this choice… select as above then tap pencil icon again to load that screen ready for customisation Tap each tile in turn to see the available choices for it below the screen. Customise as desired by tapping a tile until the border of it colours (blue in this case) so it’s active and then tap whichever of the available options at the bottom of the screen to assign it to the chosen tile. Move onto the next tile and so on. and so on, then tap big tile and you’ll see App-Connect is the only available choice. Select it to feature in the big tile. then tap an empty area of the screen to load the layout ready for use. Voila! The only downside to this is that in the normal App-connect screen (selected from main infotainment screen menu) using it as in this split screen format results in it being reduced its size on the main App-Connect - as below. Annoying but hey ho! To get back to the normal size App-connect screen (below) you have to delete the split screen choice. This involves going back into the editing mode (pencil) and the layouts mode (blue pencil) and deleting the 1/3 split screen (using bin icon) altogether, then that reverts normal App-connect to its regular screen size. But the moral of this convoluted story is, if you want it, you can have an App-connect/VW icon screen. Aside from that another screen I like is a layout which allows for aircon controls to be present alongside whatever other choices you make (I have CarPlay media for tiles. Like this and within the aircon tile I’d you swipe left you get all air on/heating actions. On this sub screen you have + and - symbols which is a quick way to control the fan setting. It just doesn't show up as an option when selecting what to show in each panel. Come to think of it, I don't have an aircon shortcut on the "homepage" either. I'm not sure if there ever was one! No there’s no aircon icon/tile in the main menu and never has been (access being via the aircon side bar icons or the ‘Clima’ button on the central pane, under the infotainment screen). How odd that it doesn’t come upon yours. It does only come up as an option on certain layouts with large tile configurations as obviously it needs more space to display. RazR
I'm looking to get PPF applied the the wing mirror housings, can anyone tell me if the Mk8 mirror size/design/shape are identical to the Mk7 mirrors, or did VW change the design for the Mk8? Same applies to the Gloss Black B-Pillar trim, apart from the addition of the Volkswagen logo, are they identical to the Mk7? My Detailer has PPF patterns for the Mk7 so if they are the same it would help!

Not sure about the B pillars, might have to compare some pics. Nath_27
RazR
OK, that's very helpful, thank you. I think the Mk8 B Pillars look a little shorter...or is it the camera angle differing slightly 🤷♂️

Annoying but hey ho!Terrific right up.Can’t wait to have a car to try it on :-)I read you have to delete the additional setting in order to retain option to get full screen CarPlay.I thought if you get out of that view (not swipe, but home button) and press on the AppConnect shortcut, it will bring up AppConnect in full size (as in the video I sent you). Doesn’t it ?Can you delete one of the pre-existing views (instead maybe ?)or are those fixed on there ? Booth11

Yes that’s what I’ve found. That having that App-connect/VW split screen set up affects the main CarPlay display, reducing the size of the CarPlay display. To restore that to normal size display you either have to delete that particular App-connect/VW layout OR (as I found out this morning), at least remove App-connect from the big tile of the App-connect/VW layout ( @pete_44 - you don’t need to delete the whole thing it seems). Both those actions will restore the main CarPlay display to its full size. 7 hours ago, AHG said: I thought if you get out of that view (not swipe, but home button) and press on the AppConnect shortcut, it will bring up AppConnect in full size (as in the video I sent you). Doesn’t it ? No unfortunately (if you have that particular split screen configured with App-connect), it doesn’t display main CarPlay at full size even accessing it via the home button. Whether you get to it with the home button or by swiping screens right to back get to the main menu, it’s still presents CarPlay in reduced size. 7 hours ago, AHG said: Can you delete one of the pre-existing views (instead maybe ?) or are those fixed on there ? From my messing about, I figured you can delete pre-existing split screen layouts but you have to have 2. You may have up to 4 layouts but no less than 2. At least that’s my findings. I’ve had limited time to mess with it due to paying day job demands The video you sent (much appreciated 👍) was useful in demonstrating that you can have that split app-connect/VW setup but it didn’t explain how to achieve it : ) Whilst messing with these split screen layouts in the last couple days, one annoying thing (gremlin) I have found is that in any of the chosen layouts, tiles will randomly vanish and then return or others might vanish, without me editing/deleting icons. Just this morning on one of the screens I have set up, it would have tiles disappear. For example this screen is as I configured it But on swiping to it, sometimes I get this and sometimes this So tiles just come and go randomly! I’ve not used these split screens much since first getting the car so how long that issue has been present I don’t know. Maybe it’s a new 1890 gremlin! 😄 Chronicbint

I like the fan +/- setting as it’s easy to access. Only negative is no temp controls on it.

Strange thing is, I tried this out (albeit briefly) earlier today after I read your post, and like @pete_44 above, I don't seem to get the option to add heating/climate controls to an individual tile/tab! I wonder is it software related? You were upgraded to the latest just last week right? Did you have this option before you had it updated at the dealers? Did you select the exact same layout as the one I used? I’ve found that the options available are dependent on the size of the tile. On small tiles aircon does not come up as a choice, only on the larger tiles due to its size needed. Unfortunately I don’t know if it was there before the software update or not as I’ve not ventured into the split screens set up for ages until yesterday. But I don’t recall it and it’s probably something I might have remembered. I think I might have an idea as to why it might have recently appeared if that is the case. My car originally was 1788 version but in the last couple weeks it’s been updated first to 1803, and then last week to 1890. The 1803 update was done as a precursor to updating the aircon/heating control unit to fix a heated seat issue, as it couldn’t be actioned in version 1788. Then they did the aircon/heating control unit update. That particular control unit update did give rise to a new setting in the aircon settings menu (to do with heated steering wheel) so there are changes, so I wonder if this is as a result of that aircon control unit update. @Scudgie also has had the same aircon control unit update on his for the same heated seat issue, so maybe he can see if he can also configure configure that split screen layout with aircon controls, as thar might confirm it? If that is the case, and it results from that fix, it’s a real shame that it’s not available without that, but maybe worth persuading dealer to do it to make the aircon controls more accessible and user friendly. A long shot but you never know.

I’ll have another look again tomorrow to be sure. My car is on version 1804, I’ve never yet had any dealer updates. I strongly suspect what you’re seeing is something they’ve added in version 1890! But the fact I had a specific aircon/heating control unit update (in addition to 1803 update) prior to the 1890 might also be a possibility, especially as that added a feature in another area. I expect one day we’ll find out. If it is 1890 update consequence, you could get your car booked in for it? JoeGTI7
