Booth11
I thought it would be a good time to start a sticky 'Quick Question thread' for members to post up any questions relating the 8R that might be useful to others too. Now people are starting to take ownership of the 8R, and with all the new tech etc etc, I think it will be useful. Post up your random (or otherwise) 8R questions in here! Jagman
Do you get a proper manual, in book form, as in the old days (7R), that guides you through the car's features?

Yep, I've had a quick scan through it only, but looks pretty much as you'd expect. Jagman
Booth11
In addition to the hard copy you can also access the user manual (Veh.wall as it’s called) via the car’s Help icon in the main menu screen. Handy if you’re parked up waiting for someone with idle fingers. 😁 Quite good too as you can do a search by visuals or text etc as well as traditional contents list/topics list. dopper99
I'd still like to know to official line on the size of the boot! 🙂 Given Matt Watson said it was only about 7 litres smaller than a standard Golf (as opposed to about 40 litres less in the Mk 7/7.5) it would be nice to know the official figure and if in fact the Mk 8 boot is bigger than the Mk 7/7.5. 🙂
Wrex
Do the slider switches light up at night now? Wondering if on newer builds they’d added some lights behind them

I still haven’t come across anything official stating the capacity. dopper99

Blackpug
Can you flick the dsg ‘gear stick’ left to put the gearbox into manual? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk No, it’s different to the 7/7.5. You can’t use the gear lever to engage manual mode. If you want you go into manual from either D or S, you need to pull one of the paddles to enter manual mode. An M will appear on the dash display, but it’s only when entering manual mode (pulling the paddle) with the gear lever being in S that it stays in manual. If you go into manual from gear lever in D it’s only temporary and reverts back to auto after a few seconds. If you’re in manual from S though it’s permanent until you either pull the right paddle towards you for a few secs to switch it off, or nudge the gear lever back to D.
