EXCESSIONOCP
Hi all, new question here (hope this is the right place!). I’m taking my car in for its first oil change this week and the dealer is trying to sell me an “engine clean and fuel line flush” service for £40. Is this needed/worth it? The car has done 8,500 miles if that helps. Thanks in advance!
Dollyman
I personally wouldn’t bother, a bit like the air conditioning service that they try and sell you. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk EXCESSIONOCP

Mine had its first oil change service a couple weeks back (on a Service Plan) and though I wasn’t offered the flush service, if I had been I’d have turned it down. I don’t think it’s necessary. Never had it done on previous cars. EXCESSIONOCP
EXCESSIONOCP
@Dollyman and @Booth11 thanks both for your help here! I’ll decline it too. It did have the whiff of an upsell so it’s good to have the advice of you two ☺️ Booth11

These attempts to up-sell by dealers are "first world" products - probably offered because we don't pay dealers enuff for their normal vehicle service (I'm kidding, of course)!! EXCESSIONOCP
An addition to my question! The post-service health check showed that my NSF tyre is wearing more quickly than the others. A quick Internet search tells me that that’s normal for left hand driving countries, but I was thinking that it might be a good idea to ask a local garage to rotate the wheels - is that a good idea? My thinking is to rotate the front wheels only (the rears are wearing much slower) and then later this year get them to rotate the rear wheels with the fronts. Does that sound reasonable? AHG
When it comes to rotation logic is your friend. Anything that makes sense, makes sense. I don’t rotate because I change tires before they are worn (I drive very little) Just make sure not to put overly worn tires in the rear as under steer is easier to control then over steer (unless your aim is to make it more tail-happy)

According to the vehicle health check tyre tread measurements taken at my service in Dec, my NSF tyre is wearing very marginally more than the OSF; and both fronts wearing quicker than the rears which is expected. I no longer bother rotating tyres as I change all 4 at same time when the most work reaches around 3mm, unless of course there’s a puncture replacement required. I will check the treads myself as find dealership tyre readings can be not the most accurate at times. EXCESSIONOCP

If your tyres are directional, you can’t just swap the front wheels side to side, you’d need to remove the tyre from the current rim and refit to the other rim, turning the tyre in the process so that it’s still rolling in the correct orientation. mahalo
I don’t think any of the OEM tyres for the Golf R are directional. Jus checked and none of the OEM 19" tyres fitted by VW at the factory are directional. All are asymmetric which seems to be favoured these days over directional. There are not many directional tyres for performance cars - the only ones I could find for the Golf R 19" size were cross climates.
AHG
Quick Q re Garmin Dash Mini 2 Recently found out that my cam stopped working I disconnected it and tried another power source (portable power bank) and it woke up, then I tried the hardwired cable and it gave power. After reconnecting the cam to the cable it started working again, no idea what changed. Went into the library and saw that apparently it was not working for 7 months (last video recorded always in April ‘25) and I never noticed. I don’t think it matters, as it is supposed to run over old footage when the SE card is full, but I formatted it anyway, just to give it a fresh start. Now on every startup I look at it to see that it opens up, which is annoying. Did that ever happen to anyone ? Any idea why it happened and how to avoid from it happening again ? I do have days where the car just sits there without driving (WFH quite a lot), and I do have a Parking Mode adapter connected (Garmin genuine) but Parking Mode was turned off (from fear of it annoying the battery and therefore the info system). P.S. I just noticed this may not be the most appropriate thread for this question. Although it is the most active quick Q thread. @Booth11 if you think a different one may be better suited, it’s ok to just move it there. sam67R310
Random question for those with the 8.5R. On the digital dash, I've seen some videos where the R large centre display is being used, the speed in mph is shown in small figures at the bottom of the display and the drive mode and gear are shown inside the rev counter. Can you configure the speed to be shown in the larger font inside the large R rev counter? If so, does it stay in the large R rev counter in D and S and other modes? The way it works on the Mark 8?
