Has anyone ever been charged for damages by VWFS
GTID replied to Rampantdidact's topic in The Lease Board
Just had mine inspected this morning. Estimated bill from the inspection of approx £300. The guy inspecting it said to challenge this figure as it's normally reduced when you do. I had 2 wheels kerbed which I was expecting but the respray of the bonnet due to stone chips is excessive in my view so have already rung VW and put a dispute in. The other charge is for a small dent above the wheel arch which I knew would get picked up but £115 for that seems reasonable. Hopefully manage to bring it down a bit but we'll see! Took roughly 20mins and he was thorough, checked the service book, spare key, locking wheel nut, fluid levels and all the bodywork as you would expect. Nice enough fella and very honest about disputing stuff. -
Evo Car of the Year 2016 Vid. Fab vid MK7 Clubsport S!
GTID replied to Msportman's topic in Other Marques
Normally really enjoy ECOTY videos but that was poor by their high standards. They need to re-do the voice over sound levels as I could barely here what they were saying a lot of the time. Amazing feat for the Clubsport S, really didn't see that coming! I think one of the roads they used is the Dalveen pass up in Dumfries? If it is, I've been meaning to get up there for ages as it's so close to a relative of mine! -

Stage 2 with an E85 blend on a stock clutch for 10k miles with no slip at all. My box is going back on b******s to it! I wish the stock exhaust sounded a bit raspier especially towards the top end, would make it more exciting to drive and give it a bit more character imo.

JB4 date ?

Those things when rolling really do move. I came across one a few weeks ago when I had the JB1 on and there wasn't an awful lot in it!
-
Did exactly the same last weekend, and like you say the car feels sluggish in comparison! Such a good bit of kit and transforms the car. I want to wait for the JB4 upgrade and put it back on but the car goes back in March so hardly feels worthwhile.
-
i just took mine off for it's second service. 10mins to take off though? Maybe if you can get it up on a lift or jack it up.. not for me, crawling under the car feeling for plug D and not being able to see it I nearly ripped my fingernail off trying to push the clip down and pull it off! Really really miss having it on. It feels like a different car without it, not slow but it's an animal on map 1 with 5-5.2 boost safety. Had so much fun with it since I've fitted it but not sure it's worth putting back on for only 2 months before it goes back.

You will have the settings as it's shipped which is map 1 with boost safety at 4.8. You have a few options, switch to map 6 which as standard is more clutch friendly but is user adjustable. Or increase the boost safety to 5 in map 1, you can go to 5.2 but I think that's more for those who have bolt ons i.e. downpipe See here for a tutorial on how to change the settings on the box:

George, I just have to say thank you. Thank you for such a superb bit of kit. I swtiched to map 1 with the boost safety up to 5.0 today with a full tank of 99. It's the most fun I've had in the car by far! I went for a nice long drive up the Hartside pass near me, legendary with bikers, and a few of them could not believe the turn of pace from the golf. Pulling out of the hairpins and slower corners was so much fun, this is how the car should have been standard. A lot of smiles on my face today, so thank you!- 351 replies

What map are you on? I've switched between map 6 and map 1 a few times. Map 1 feels quicker to me, I tried Map 1 with boost safety at 5.0 today and wow it's the most fun I've had in the car since I've had it. But like you say, like any tune ,once you get used to it it doesn't feel as fast.
-
As eluded to above check it after it's been up to temp, leave it for 5-10mins though. I checked mine cold once and the level was near the bottom of the dipstick, checked again when warm and it was back towards the top. As for the coolant, a few people have had the same issue. Seems to be air locks in the system if I remember rightly, mine is getting low but I'm on 18k miles now. However, £50 for an inspection?! I would tell them to f**k themselves personally, a nearly new £30k+ car with a full manufacturers warranty and they want £50 to inspect it my local dealer has had no issue checking various niggles I've had and I would expect no less.

What cars do you believe you embarrassed with your R?!
GTID replied to AC14RKE's topic in VW Golf R MK7 Chat
I get this almost daily, BMW 118d's, 320d's, audi A3 TDi's and A4's but by far the most common at the moment are the Merc A series Diesels with the AMG body kit. I think those driving them think they look fast so they must go fast! I've had some "interesting" runs in mine since fitting the JB1. Nothing between the R and a A45 AMG from 30-80ish, stuck with a C63 AMG from similar but he would of had the legs if the speed increased, a 435d attempted to cut me up on the motorway.. I gave him 2 car lengths and I still breezed past him! -

15 Plate 18 months old and 17k miles with no major issues so far. JB1 fitted for the past 4k miles too. Rubbing sound at full lock has come back recently and my bluetooth connectivity is playing up. Paint is very soft and the tracking gets knocked out very easily, not just the R that suffers from that though!

JB1 review on a Manual 7R

I really really need to invest in some sort of detection. Twice in the past week those pesky w*****s sitting in their mobile vans have caught me unawares due to their positioning on the road. I think it's going to be very very close whether or not I get caught on both occasions! Could be up to 9 points so cannot afford to get caught again, some advice on these would be very much appreciated. I had waze but deleted it as I thought it was rubbish! The snooper or road angel seem to be the most popular..

I'm sure George from Burger will correct me if im wrong here, but doesn't map 1 with 5.0 and 5.2 boost safety see you up around 370-380 lb/ft? I'm sure I've seen a few dyno runs with those sorts of figures? It's a given that a remap will produce more power and torque as much more parameters can be adjusted. I think the JB1 is a superb bit of kit and far better than it's plug and play rivals. Once the JB4 comes along it will add another dimension too, I couldn't tell you if it's going to increase torque to remap levels, we will have to wait and see- 351 replies

I can echo all the compliments about the JB1 from the original poster. Great bit of kit, it really wakes the car up. Mine is a manual also and I've had it fitted for 2months now. Switched to Map 6 after a week and adjusted the settings and I'm now back on map 1 and looking to crank it up to 5.0 to see how it feels. I do enjoy the considerable amount of extra torque in map 1 but map 6 is smoother and suits my driving a bit more I think. I did a 1500 mile round trip a few weeks ago, when it was in map 6, and came across all different types of cars. A particular highlight being a C63 AMG couldn't shake me off his tail from 40 to approaching silly speeds. No clutch issues so far, any sign of slip and I will take it off as I don't fancy paying for a new clutch when the car goes back in February! In summary, get one and enjoy!
