  1. Thought I would update this... So I actually cancelled the S5 order. We had an offer accepted on a dream house and we moved in same time car was due, so with a heavy heart I decided to cancel and keep the Golf R for a little while. I was still looking for the next car though but unfortunately the S5 deals had dried up and prices were extortionately high for what I had originally signed up for. Was pretty gutted, but moved on. Test drove a few cars in that time. M140i was one and whilst rapid, felt a bit unstable I thought and wasn’t a huge fan of the looks. Went back to Audi and drove the RS3. Again rapid, planted, nice sound. Not sure why, but I felt a bit underwhelmed, which is ridiculous really given what it is. Again, couldn’t find a decent price on them. Then I got wind of some deals on the BMW M2. Managed to get a days test drive and wow! The car sounded amazing, looks so aggressive with the faded arches and ticked all the boxes. It has so much grip. The m140 spun up all the time and was almost pointless. The M2 doesn’t and the steering round twisties is incredible! I had two deals fall through on it after being promised a car only be told they had already been allocated and getting fobbed off with different (pre reg) cars but for more money. Thinking i might have missed the boat, got a call from BMW Park Lane and got an unreal deal on a brand new 18 plate, pretty much fully loaded. The downside was that it was white and I wanted black, but the deal was that good I couldn’t turn it down. It was an end of Q2 offer that they had to shift and got it on the 30th June just in time. Long story short, got the train down from durham to London yesterday, picked it up and drove it back. Not had it long, but the noise, power (although can’t take it over 4K revs for 1k miles until run in) and finish of the car is amazing. But, I still think that the process was so hard to find anything because the Golf R is the best bang for buck you can get. I was lucky and got in the cheap deals 2.5 years ago, so everything had to stack up against that. It’s got everything you could ever need and I’ll miss it dearly. The flip side is that I needed a changed. One thing the golf can lack is a bit of theatre and it was something I was keen to bring to the table with this car... having said that, ask me when it’s when and see how I’m getting on with RWD. Anyway, sad day seeing the golf go, but can’t wait to get to grips with the M2. Also, VWROC forum rocks. So so helpful, so thanks to everyone for the help. I’ll defo stick around as I’m a car guy, so like to read about all sorts of motors. I know everyone says it, but the pics really don’t do it justice and show how aggressive it looks. Anyway... 2. Congrats!! Great car incoming. Those new Audi interiors are on another level at the minute. Do you never worry you’ll see an RS6 and think... dammm? I’ve always wondered why they have the avant versions of both as I assume that they are very similar? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I had a quick look at mine and it’s certainly not flush, looking similar to yours. Have had a couple issue where it’s sprung open when driving, but I just make sure it’s properly clicked in after fueling and been done since. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I was able to get a test drive in a m140 for 48 hours as the golf was going back last December. Long story short, we bought a house so the golf is staying for another 12 months or so. My thoughts on the m140.... First off, the sound. It’s loads better. Much more what I wanted from the golf. Cold starts were awesome and really had something about it. Looks as you say are subjective, and I wasn’t mad for the m140. Personality think the R is a lot better looking. Speed, the m140 in the right conditions felt a good bit quicker. Not night and day, but the pull from about 30mph was defo stronger. The issue is that in the UK we have wet roads for probably 70% of the year. I was lucky that in the morning of the first day with the car the weather was great. Dry roads, m140 hardly lost traction and went like the wind. It rained in the afternoon and I’m glad it did. Whilst the RWD is fun, in the wet it’s borderline useless. No grip off the line and even flooring it from around 30mph+ it really struggled. To be honest, on a B road if there was a car coming my way on an extended straight I had very little confidence that I was going to move into their lane. The R has next to none of these issues and even in the wet it’s hard to get it massively out of shape. One thing I will say is that there were some great deals about on the shadow edition. I think I was offer £380pm and £380 down for a PCP. It’s a lot of car for the money. RWD definitely has its place, but for me I want to make use of the power year round, which is why AWD is a better suit for me. Edit: also the cabin is much smaller on the bmw. I’m 6’4 so need a good bit of space and it get cramped. Doubt many would have been able to sit behind me. The less said about the manual handbrake coming out of an auto one, the better. [emoji23]
  5. Looks great congrats! Would have defo Spec'd those black prets if I could have on mine last time [emoji108] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. It's Navarra blue. I've got Lapiz now so at first I wanted something different other than blue, but I think it's the best colour aside from the exclusive colours which are £2k extra. The RS3 configuration got released on the morning I signed for mine. I spec'd one out but they said it wouldn't be delivered this year. They offered my 2 alternatives that they already had coming which I could take, but both were white and I didn't fancy either of them. It also came in at nearly £8k more than the S5, so I decided to hold off. Just a note for anyone looking at one of these (S5). I pushed Newcastle Audi pretty hard to get what I considered a good deal. They ended up adding in 3.5k deposit (1k more than current offer standard) and also got over £150/month less along with a service plan than they originally quoted me. Basically, just said what I wanted to pay and waited until they got there. Sales guy spoke to his boss, who spoke to his boss etc etc blah blah. It's quite hilarious to hear, very dramatic! Not sure if it was timing due it being the end of Q2 or what, but made considerable savings. Looking about at forums it was as good a deal as I'd seen. Also, totally agree re the 3L V6. These types of engines are definitely out of fashion with so many tuneable 4 pot turbos around, so be interesting to see how it goes. Weirdly, the new RS5 has a 2.9L engine!? Go figure. 7. I'm heading over to the dark side... I just today signed the papers on a brand new Audi S5 sportback. Actually feel a bit sad leaving the R, but obviously excited for the new motor! Down side is they aren't expecting it be built until November/December, but then at least I still have the R to keep me entertained for a couple months yet. I have to admit, the R has far exceeded my expectations for a car. In terms of an all-rounder I doubt there is much better on the road, especially for ~30k. It's been immense to be honest. I've had so many comments on the colour (lapiz) and then when you give people a go they are blown away. All this from a 2L engine is often the response I get. I umm' and ahh'd for ages about what to get next. For a long time it was going to be mk7.5, but then decided that it seemed a bit daft paying the money to swap for what's essentially the same car with a few more bells and whistles. The S5 never really crossed my mind and I originally went to test drive an RS3. But, news of the new shape coming out for that and at the time they couldn't confirm a build slot this year, I decided against. The AMG and 'M' cars are a little out of budget and whilst I did test drive the new Alfa Quadriflgoigofodofiodoglio, it was too much of a stretch financially, but so god damm amazing! After seeing and testing the S5 it really ticked all the boxes for me. Quick. Exciting. Good to look at (IMO), 4 doors (Sportback FYI), good deals to be had. It's reportedly a shade quicker than the golf, but apparently Audi are quite conservative with 0-60 times. I must admit, I by no means flogged the nuts off it in the test drive, but had all the power and theatre I need/ can afford. This is a rough idea of how it should look It'll be a sad day when the golf finally goes. It's been hands down the best car I've ever owned and can definitely see me getting in another at some... maybe the MK8? Already thinking of ways to get the Mrs to get one so I can take it out [emoji23] Really excited for the Audi though be interesting to see if anyone has made the same switch? In terms of interior quality I don't think it can be beaten in its class, just hope the important stuff adds up as well! [emoji106] P.S just wanted to add how bloody brilliant this forum is by the way. Been a massive resource, especially before purchasing... unlike many of the Audi equivalent I must add. Thank god for YouTube!
  8. We'll sort of. It seems to have just sorted its self out to be honest. Either that or I didn't notice it. I had every intention of taking it in to VW but I'd forgotten about it. If it's annoying you I'd get it seen too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. +1 I jumped on the band wagon about a year ago where people on a detailing forum were snapping up some offer for £5 delivered. I tried it and at first I'd left it on the panel too long and was very tough to buff off. But, I now spray one panel at a time, wipe on with wowo microfibres and buff off with a finishing cloth straight after. I use it on top of sealant then dodo purple haze pro, more of a top up than anything. I actually think it works brilliantly with the wax and gives it a soaking wet look. It gets applied after almost very wash now just as a top up as it doesn't last that long. Probably the best value for money in my kit at the minute! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Glad it's sorted... I have the same rattle in my door as well, can I just ask if this has been covered under warranty? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. I'm looking at the s5 as well. Some good deals to be had on the new shape costing not a lot more per month than my R. The downside is that I could ideally do with 5 doors and whilst the coupe does looks better, I dont mind the new sportback. Be interested to hear people's thoughts on the sportback actually. Tyre wear.

I'm just about swap out my bridgestones and got less than 11k miles on them. Pretty shocking to be honest and I hardly flog the car really. Hoping these Goodyear Asymmetric 3's last a good while longer! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Tried getting in touch with Asda tyres first because I couldn't find where you enter the discount code and they informed me that there no bonus codes only ones that employees can use for staff discount!? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
