GTI International @ Rockingham circuit - 2-3 June
TuftyR replied to TamsR's topic in Future Meets, Track Days, & Events
How come there was a club stand last year? Do you have to register each year? Looks like a park up in visitors car park then! But annoying when walking round there will be loads of other clubs with TTs Skodas and all sorts of VW group cars as well as GTIs! But no bloody R stand! Can't see why VWROC can't have a stand just register it now Admin?? -
Great replies thank you! Am of an age that loves the heritage hence GTI and 911 my lotto car! But the R is the most awesome car I have ever driven! Pootling along on the commute I forget what it is then I boot it and whoooa! Real world all weather all year round you can not beat it for real money! I would hate to be in a GTI then watch a R pull up at the lights on a damp day! I would regret spending more on less! So glad I got my R! I only just popped my launch cherry after 18k miles but did three on the bounce and one the next day! Like a fairground ride! That’s enough though my car is a keeper and don’t wanna wear her out! Lol! Like it has been said the 7/7.5 will be the last of the breed as mk8 will no doubt have some leccy in it! Cheers guys may catch you at Inters :-)

I love Golf GTI! I had a MK2 big bumper back in the day when they were hot and a MK4 when they were not! I would have had a 40th Anniversary/Clubsport but not when the R was less to buy with more power and AWD!! But I find myself seeing the R as the lesser attention model with special editions of the GTI being made or rumoured such as CS and TCR! Why no fuss with the R? Oh yeah that ole R400 model! Not! IMO the GTI gets the better trim with tartan seats and more body kit but the R gets power and traction but left in the shadows! Thoughts please?

Hi I am traveling some distance and unsure of arrival time so will just go straight to the venue on Saturday. I will be booking on line like last year and they email you tickets and club pass to get let in and directed to your stand. #You just need club password when online booking!? It may just be VWROC! #Any of you enthusiastic R owners know that!? (I am keen R man but simple stock man daily driver not a modder like you younger guys lol). -

To park up together we need to register as a club and a password from Admin when ordering tickets online plus save three quid! Anyone know that? -

Hi I will be going on the Saturday travelling down from North Yorkshire as I did last year. Think it's worth parking up as a club as less chance of parking dings on your door and other issues in general car park! Albeit last years club parking was about four cars! Think you just go on line with GTI Inters and register to park together or is there a code? See yous at Inters for club park up! -
14 month old 7R with standard wheels and Bridgestones and 16.5k miles: fronts 4mm rears 5mm! Will see me passed 20k service! Yours Driving Miss Daisy! Lol!

Coming from the 'm lite' 235i to the R I would say keep the R! M2 looks mean but as a daily they just spin in damp wet conditions. It's the UK and winter is coming you will miss the AWD and think of the extra cost for real world less go!
-
Hmm not sure you could live with tippy toeing about in the wet and winters ahead! I know I went from a M235 to the R! Traction is night and day in comparison! Tail out for TopGear not real world (imo). My R is a keeper like others have said where else do you go for price v performance!? The R is a mini GTR/RS6 and the like!
-
Was only teasing mate! My first DSG after years of manual cars and don't think I would go back! DSG and R makes the car imo! Hope you get sorted.
-
Clutch is quiet quick and effortless in my DSG😂

Disgusting that a true R owner handed a car back so neglected (don't care as it's a company lease?) Shame on you if so! Disgusting that a professional can sell a car in such a shite state too! Shame on them! The R is an enthusiasts car and both parties should reflect that! Nobody buy it! If it ain't looked after cosmetically then it ain't mechanically (imo)!

Golf R FL vs RS3 FL vs A45 vs Focus RS vs Type R [emoji4]
TuftyR replied to 8YARWY's topic in VW Golf R MK7 Chat
Can I just say that in the slowest of hot hatches it is difficult in the real world to exploit the car on real world roads without bumping into the car in front or getting a speeding ticket! Manufacturers are just creating a pissing competition so we jump ship and buy the next best thing! Where will it end? A 600 bhp carbon fibre hot hatch at £75k til the next one comes out with 650 bhp! Let's take stock and get a life! Yeah I thought R should have been the DSG (cos I have one). No I didn't regret not taking the RS (because I deposited on a Stealth Grey one). I admire the A45 but like the Golf there are loads round and you have to squint to see if it's a cooking model or full fat! Yep the RS3 had a great engine ( I had a Volvo 850 with a 5 pot and that sounded nice)! But RS3 is just a quite boring A3 with a lick of sex and a nicer engine but I bet it ain't £10-20k better car! If you had the money then..then it's the hype getting you! The R is still the best all rounder for the money! Oh I forgot the Type R well WTF it's hideous! It's stupid! Four pipes on the Golf and S3 etc but a 468 three! That's worse! If I had £50k for RS3 I would buy an RS4 or even S4 Avant and not follow the pissing crowd! C'mon guys and gals pinch yourselves! Your R is a great car regardless of all the hype and competition! Where will it end! -
Ignition this morn and 1200 miles til first oil service then 8 mile steady drive to the gym and 1100 mile til service! WTF 8 mile made it drop 100!
-
Would you buy a second hand high performance car that didn't have dealer stamps in the service book on a car worth over £20k!? Whilst the car is still newish in age with big money outlay to buy Jo Public wants that reassurance.
-
I ordered a Stealth Grey Focus RS love that colour but couldn't live with a £30k on a Focus! Great car but not quality enough for me.
-
Hi glad this thread was created as I recently scrolled through the menus to see what mine said! My car is 6 months old from new with 8k miles and said Oil change in 1300 or 158 days. Inspection 12000 or 523 days. Man maths works out that my oil change is due at 9300 ish and just short of a year. My car is driven with mechanical sympathy and not a lot of stop start just thought that the oil change is coming a little early at 9300? (Car is private purchase and a long term keeper. Not had to top up yet either). Will see how it goes before the car tells me. Cheers for any observations.

Well over 50 6ft 15st with a dodgy back I find the standard seats very comfortable and supportive! There is usual slide back and forth under the front and the rake adjustment twisty bit at the side (much better than BMW lever). But in addition there is another lever that drops you down and angle back or up and forward! Pardon my lack of decent description but that so called height adjustment is key I reckon for a decent fit! Too low and you are reaching out too much. Set it for about a fist full of headroom and seems to work! 'Fist full of headroom' eh could be the sequel to a fist full of dollars! Lol

Read the opening post and thought wow a simple question and my answer is DSG! Then you read the thread and suddenly its a debate whether DSG is part of a build choice like 3 or 5 door! Lol! Car is standard manual with either door choice therefore DSG is my first option! Correct? If not pano roof then lol!
