Apparantley I have to wait until after forensics have been. But the chap I spoke to at the pound said it's a right off they've rolled it and every panel is damaged, but obviously insurance can't take his word on it, and their own engineers have to assess damage.

UPDATE: The car was found last Tuesday and taken to a garage where it awaits forensics to go over it. My claim was to be finalised last Wednesday/Thursday. 6 days and forensics have still not been out to it further delaying my insuranace settlement. No communication from the Police since being informed by the Control room where the car is being stored.

My wife doesn't want a performance car on the drive in case they come back, and although that's at the back of my mind too, it won't stop me, at least at this moment in time. I said to her we haven't stopped travelling even though there's potentially a chance that some idiot with a rifle or vest is gonna cause mayhem, and we could be in the wrong place at the wrong time, but unfortunately that's the world we live in, And you can't stop living, I understand it's all about how strong you are mentally and how one deals with these things.

Thankfully I didn't need GAP, and for the reasons outlined by you, because the companies cause you more stress and they don't make it easy when they have to pay out puts me right off taking it...but I was lucky that my car went in the first year...if you can call it luck. i too am waiting to hear from the Police...the original on the scene at our house didn't even bother to ever contact me with a crime ref number, says it all really.

I've had the same thoughts so many times, even more over the recent years. But then again the grass always looks greener, and every place has its own individual problems.

UPDATE: Just got off the phone to the Police compound, the chap said there isn't a straight panel on it, looks like it's been in a roll. As bad as this may sound to some members, I was so relieved to hear that. It was actually found on the Cheetham Hill/Crumpsall border, and not in Gorton where it is actually currently being housed at the Police Compound, awaiting forensics. Can you imagine if that car was repairable, and I had to live with that engine and drivetrain, not to mention issues that may have surfaced down the line with VW and warranty claims, grey areas as to whether future issues were caused due to "negligent" driving and VW not honouring warranty claims, as they knew the car had been stolen. They would only need to hook up the computer to read engine history and it would reveal how long and how many times it stayed in high revs, how many launch controls etc etc. Then there would be the personal issue and coming to terms with living with a car that had been stolen and damaged, and constantly worrying of whether it was going to cause me mechanical issues, whether they would try and steal it again, trying to sell it etc etc. Anyway, I don't have that headache thankfully, but it has woken me up and made me even more alert to this sort of crime. Just wanted to say a massive genuine thank you to everyone that took the time to write words of support both publicly and privately...you're a good bunch 🙌🏽🍺

Well with the insurance getting me a quote for a replacement, I'm not sure it was already written off. But I have to agree I certainly don't want it back.

Yeah I forgot to put that in my post...it originally had 180miles of fuel when they took it...so they would've drank through that as they would've been ragging it....I want to to know where they got the money from to fuel it!! Stolen credit cards no doubt!

Gorton...one of the roughest areas in Manchester for anyone that doesn't know. What begs the question is there is a huge police station in the area, most ANPR cars drive around that area and nothing was picked up for nearly 2 weeks!! They found the car because they crashed it!!!

Well that was good timing on your part. car found this evening ...involved in a smash, front end and back end ruined, in a police compound is as much as I know. as you all know insurance were getting 2 quotes to replace my car. so now I have to ask the question was mine written off last week or will they check it to see if it's a write off?? Either way it's ruined...not to mention the mechanical damage the gear may have suffered as well as suspension damage, wheels, gearbox, haldex all those launches they will have done.

So....car still hasn't surfaced. Insurance covers me new for old like for like replacement or I can have a cash settlement. Cash settlement left me scratching my head....insurance will get 2 separate quotes and pay out on the cheapest quote, less excess and less ROAD LICENCE FUND???? I queried the RFL bit and was told thats what we do with regards to a cash settlement, I asked where it says that in my policy other than I have to pay my excess, I was told it's not in the policy but its what we charge all our customers in a cash settlement. It left me scratching my head... Any advice or thoughts on this?

Sorry to hear about this...just trying to get over our own theft. You were only commenting on my thread the other day, sickens me to see this now. Thank's to your security measures though, you had a lucky escape. Got my snap locks on all external doors thanks to everyones advice...CCTV and security light updates next.
