Hi All, wanted to share my awful experience with my local VW dealer regarding the service of my GOLF R, and hopefully get some advice on options. Sorry for the long post, but the details are important. The car, 2016 MK7, DSG, 30K miles, unmodified- went into the dealer for a routine service- oil & filter + Haldex fluid and filter clean. The car was collected from my home and returned back to me later that evening. The next day using the car- I immediately felt/ heard a shudder/ vibration and wheel scrubbing sensation from the rear of the car on sharp left and right low speed turns. First thing that went through my head is oh no, they've forgot to refill the haldex system. I immediately called the garage back asking that they look at it immediately, and to ask for a courtesy car to drive - as i feared id be doing more damage. No courtesy car was offered and therefore the car was used until the following week when it went back in for diagnosis. The haldex was flushed and filled and returned to me stating that the car has no issues. it took a fairly assertive call with the service manager to find out that they had actually flushed out debris in the fluid. I refused to sign the their documentation to say that i was happy until i had tested the car. The following day , sure enough the noise was back, so i called back asking them to correct the problem. The next available appointment was 3 weeks later (They refused to collect the vehicle immediately- stating they were too busy-and they said they dont do courtesy cars...? ) during which time i was using the car gently to get to work- with the rear end noise apparent the whole time. As a qualified engineer, this leads me to believe that a)the system was under-filled, b) not filled at all or 3) the incorrect fluid used e.g if a non friction fluid was used this would be the end of the haldex clutches) A car of this mileage should not experience a failure of this sort. After delivering the car and demonstrating the fault to the master tech, I requested a video diagnosis (as is fairly standard practice with main dealer services) which showed that the oil removed each time had debris, sediment and clutch fibre contamination. After the 3rd visit to the workshop, the dealer concluded that a new haldex system was required, and that they would offer no financial contribution to it. The bill sent for a replacement haldex system is just under £5,500 for which VW are saying i am responsible-as their view is that i supplied the car to them with the fault- which to me is absolutely sickening and disgusting. With a high pressure job and a 5 month old baby, this stress is the last thing i need. -If the haldex was damaged to start with they would have found evidence during the first service! -The car has been faultless until i handed it over to VW! Ive also consulted a transmission specialist who have said they've never seen a haldex failure on a low mileage VAG car and that they had heard horror stories of the same main dealer. After several heated conversations with the service manager- this now looks set to go to legal action, I've requested that communication now switches to written and i am about to contact the Motor Industry ombudsman to raise a case- which could mean going to court. Has anyone else been in this situation, have any advice, did you manage to get a successful conclusion? I find it absolutely appalling that the dealer are denying any wrong doing and that they system was broken before the service- its an insult! Its really has ruined 3 years of joyful motoring in the R and really tainted the VW brand for me- i will never go back. Thanks David

I have recently received such an bad customer experience from a online retailer so thought of sharing so that you could avoid the same. shop used: All Stars Motorsports site. http://www.all-stars-motorsport.com/ Purchased items TTE525 Wagner Tuning intercooler Kit Forge Motorsports Turbo blanket Total cost 4393.70€ Time when order placed & Paid 30.5.2018 Time when Order cancelled TTE525 1.6 as I got cold feet and cancelled the Turbo order as I thought the shipment was not yet processed. Wagner IC 2.6 as it was informed that this would be in back order with maybe 60days of delivery time, no available items in stock. Cancelled whole order and requested refund as company prompted as an option. Initially items were informed to be all ready for shipment so this change in availability was strange. Company indicated that they had already shipped the turbo so I should wait until they receive items back from cargo operator before they can refund order. I hadn’t received any shipping tracking code in first place so to me the items were never sent but agreed to wait anyways. Time passed, and no information or refund was given. I contacted them week later to ask for status - sales@all-stars-motorsports.com email responded nothing - before they were communicating with less than 1 hr response time. I created Service requests on their site to check refund status - I got response that my order was processed for the refund, it would just take some time. Time passed, no info or refund. I contacted them on weekly basis both with email and calling their service center directly tel:+351251648217 - their service operator was nice and helpful but in practice she hasn't done anything to help me getting my refund back. they have promised to check what refund status has been and promised to call or email me back - this has been useless. All in all, if you plan to order something from all stars motorsports - never use wire transfer as you probably won’t get your money back if something happens. This has been my worst commerce experience within 10 years.

Hello, I’m getting the “inspection due” message coming up, but just wanted to check what this involves as everywhere I’ve checked so far gives me a different answer! My car is a 65 October reg Golf R, on long life regime. It had its first oil service over a year at 17k, I’ve since not done many miles and is now calling for an inspection at 22k. The computer is saying oil isnt due for another 11k or 1yr, and the inspection says 9k or 4 days. Does anyone know what this “inspection” entails, and if they stamp the book when it’s done? Can I just reset the indicator myself as far as I can see the inspection is literally just a once over in everything and my car is fine so I grudge taking it to VW and pay someone to inspect it, especially if it doesn’t get a stamp in the book! What are the implications of missing this inspection and just going to VW for the next oil service? Any help much appreciated.

My R has just had it’s 1st service in my ownership (bought 15MY with 20k mileage in August 2016) and I’ve had the dreaded call from the VW Technician that my rear brake pads and discs are 100% worn and need to be replaced, they quoted me £450 for the lot. I am aware this comes down to wear and tear in the eyes of VW which is a complete con but surely this should be happening in 10 months of ownership? I am not an overly aggressive braker either 😩 (Picture taken from the video sent to me, apologise for the poor quality)

I've been offered a 4 year VW service plan (4 services and 2 MoTs) for £559 which the dealer reckons will save me nearly £500 on the cost of those items individually at today's prices. I hope to keep the car that long so this seems a good deal. Is it the sort of thing others have been offered and does it seem a good price? Shorter term plans are also available but the savings decrease the shorter the term.

Afternoon everyone, As the title says my car is coming up to 3 years old and 30,000 miles. Having read a few threads so far I'm led to believe at this mileage I should be getting a standard service done on the car but also get both the DSG and Haldex fluid changed at the same time, does that sound about right? I'm also based in the Newcastle area and am looking for garage recommendations. I've seen a few for Revolution, Swift and Automotive Solutions in Peterlee. Are these still the best in the area? At my last service the quote from Swift came in at the same price as Lookers @ Silverlink so I'm not sure if they are going to be competitive enough for an independent specialist. Peterlee is a little trek down the road but if they are decent it'll be worth the trip. As for Revolution I know they've been around a while but I don't know what their pricing is like..... Any help / info appreciated.

Seeking decent independent VAG specialist garages around Sunbury/Feltham/Staines/Twickenham/Heathrow areas. Car (not my 7R) is out of warranty and I do not trust main dealers and will avoid them at all costs (due to past experiences). I tried searching the forum for existing threads on recommended indy garages but it returned 0 results. I then moved to Google and found a few in the area, just wondered if anyone had any experiences to share with these? Thanks in advance! http://www.vagtuneservices.co.uk/content/servicing-and-mot http://www.boxermotorworks.co.uk/vw-servicing/ http://www.vagtek.com/prices.html

Just a quick question as VW are taking forever to get back to me, my first oil change is due soon and have been quoted £184 for the job which I think is a con for an oil and filter change. Question is if I am using the recommended oil and genuine VW filters but do it a non-VW service center does this then void my warranty? Also in the first service is there anything else involved or is just oil and filters?

Good Afternoon All, My Mk7 R recently had its second service including oil change service. Since new the oil temperature has always hovered around the 104°C mark going up to 105-106°C. Since the oil change service it now hovers around 99-100°C, rarely goes above this. Do you think they have changed to oil characteristics? Any other thoughts or feedback on what other peoples oil temperatures are? Ben

Hello all, Site looks great for advice so looking for some help! My Golf R has come up for it's first service. The mileage is around 7'500 and its only just coming up to it's first birthday. I received a quote from one dealership, the other one i rang has confused me a little. They told me that the car should be on long life and should not need a service yet so they will simply turn the service light off. Has anyone else heard this? Thanks!
