Jacko-R
Anyone reckon they can beat this? On my 4 hour commute last night, very happy with it! Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
T13RUN01
Could have done a little better if I turned ac and radio off, also was extremely boring driving sensibly.Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk Jacko-R and JaseW
Ignition1
4 hour commute?? Hope it's not daily. I also got high MPG yesterday on a fairly long and steady drive home. I think the 32C temperatures maybe helped, though I had AC on. Got 40.1 MPG over 2 hours, mix of M25 (85mph) and A-Road blasts. Quite amazed because driving like that, without AC, usually gets me about 28mpg or less!

Ignition1
Yeah long motorway trips are quite economical for this car, but only at 70/75mph. What surprised me yesterday is that I was going faster than that, and accelerating from 70 to 85 a lot, and then hitting some A-Roads - but still got 40.1. Must be the weather, almost certain of it...no other change in driving conditions from usual except the heat was 31/32C
JaseW
I am glad I don't have to do my old commute any more.... 375 miles ONE WAY! Used to do that on a Sunday evening and a Friday afternoon. Drove a seat Leon FR TDI then though and my best average was 58mpg. But it took me 7 hours! My record was 5 hours 4 mins and mpg was around 40. Think the R would be close to the 40 if taken steady but my commute is only 10 miles now. Roll on collection day! Leo9
Is it just me, or is this "R" forum the wrong forum for a "bestest mpg" topic - surely it belongs in a "D" forum of some sort? I reckon if your mpg is 2 figures starting with a 3 you're in the wrong car. Booth11, TeaJay, Whitehead and 3 others 1

Drives me insane people who waffle on about MPG and how good their car is @ 50-60mph on a motorway. One of the first questions im asked when im seen in the R "how good is it on petrol" - Don't care. Ignition1
The great thing with the R though is that it can get great MPG...even if you're not trying to do so. camelsac2002
gazza5
My mpg is very high at the minute due to 500 motorway miles, my app shows 37.7 average so far. I never drive at 60 on motorway - always at 70 (unless in the roadworks at 50!) - my mpg will go down going forward because 1. Car will be doing town 2. Now it has a few miles under its belt will start playing with sport mode etc which I haven't done yet. Coming froma diesel mpg was a little bit of a shock, but considering I averaged 30 mpg in a 1.6t corsa, if I get the same in the golf I will be very happy. TeaJay
haha I was impressed yesterday when I averaged 25mpg on a trip to my parents. ... this mornings trip to work, back to the usual 21mpg
squoval
I've had 54mpg on a 32 miles round trip to work in eco and costing at every opportunity I could. I don't think anywhere near that would be possible on the motorway though. Never tried. 30 is achievable and high 30's are doable in the R. I get 36mpg most days in my B9 S5, although this is efficiency/eco mode. 30mpg in dynamic/sport/race. Pretty much the same mpg as the R but probably due to the 8 speed gearbox. Jacko-R
Don't worry, my R stays in Race everywhere except motorways, even make sure to put it into race when I approach roundabouts just because it's more funSent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

Some days I drive like a granny and get 25mpg. Other days I boot it around and get 30mpg. Seems a bit temperamental. Could be a time of the month thing as well. Some days it just needs a hug.
