I decided to get a set of the VW All Weather rubber mats and they had them in stock at my local dealership so popped in the buy them this morning. Got a nice discount too. I usually use carpet mats year round but winters seem to be getting muddier and muddier, and my work involves lots of site visits (year round) plus I do a few trips up to Yorkshire and Lake District in winter months so these be easier to clean and will save my carpet mats from getting wrecked in the winter months. I’m a big fan of rubber mats - really hard wearing and highly durable. I prefer them to carpet mats - especially at this time of year (I hate soggy, wet carpet mats), and usually keep my rubber mats in the car all year round. The raised lip around the edge of the mats contains any dirt and wetness which can be tipped out of the car, and a quick wipe over of the mats and they’ll look as good as new again. I never use any cleaning / rubber dressing products on them that might make them slippery, as that could transfer to the soles of footwear and the pedals in the car. However, as the aficionado of all things car detailing-wise, you’ll already be aware of that 🤣, but it might be useful info. for others. Whilst I do prefer the feel of carpet mats underfoot from a comfort perspective and I’ll use them in summer and for long journeys on the motorway, these rubber mats with the raised lip will contain the ton of mud I seem to always have on my boots/shoes (even after changing foot wear for driving). Haha don’t worry, they’ll just get rinsed off and wiped down with good old plain water, when needed, I wouldn’t use anything on them for the reasons you point out. As well as being slippy, rubber dressing stuff would end up everywhere else! 😄
TurboTrev
Another big rubber mats fan here, I have used them for years, I can't remember when I last used carpets. Also, my Mk7 rubber mats fit the 8.5 fine, so no need to buy new ones. Booth11

NWHighlander
Hi, Anyone acquired a gas strut for the bonnet, if so is it the same as the mk8 ? Mike PS Rolf is still under 8" snow since Mon, so no chance for pics.

The best I got from my local dealership was when they had ragged my car at over 90mph on 50mph limit roads for “road testing”…on TWO separate occasions and the manager told me “well…you don’t buy a car like this to drive it slowly do you”. 🤬

Are you still using that dealership after that behaviour?

To find a garage you can trust is gold dust nowadays, most are arseholes that can not understand the value of the car to the owner and they don’t appreciate the sacrifice and how hard you have to work for that car. No disrespect to anyone who is in that trade and does a good job, it’s just difficult to find a garage you can trust.
blizzard60
Is there no R mat for RHD cars? These are the mats that the dealer gave me with the purchase of my car: P/N 5H6-061-530-82V Booth11 and PBHorne

I've worked for Ford delivering parts across the north west, honestly for as much as you can trust a few in a dealership, always something or someone there that'll put you off. My last few cars got serviced by mobile techs that I know and trust. if they're not available I have an independent I trust. I've seen customers cars low speed crashed and damaged in and around dealerships. Heard that many stories, it's gives me anxiety when I have to take one for anything.
