Golf mk8 R order thread - post your order details!
JoeGTI7 replied to Booth11's topic in VW Golf R MK8 Chat
That's what I'd love to know too. I assumed once BW is confirmed, it gets done. Now, to throw more mystery into it, my Dad recently took delivery of a Tiguan R-Line. That car was built in mid-April but sat around in the factory for about 6 weeks post-build for more software updates and WLTP checks. -

Hey Booth, long time! Its actually a Clubsport, not an R (is that allowed in here?!!). I've spec'd DCC, winter pack, rear camera and the 19" Estorils. Stranger still, the same dealer has had a fully loaded R and a well spec'd Edition-45 all get built on schedule in the last couple of weeks. I'd love to know the real ins and outs of whats going on in Wolfsburg because some of the excuses I read here and elsewhere don't add up to what I see in terms of which cars get built. -

Doesn't work unfortunately, you need to be a UK resident. -

I'm in Ireland, and VW Ireland haven't invented a customer-facing tracker yet, but from what I can gather on these forums, its less than useful in a lot of cases! My information is directly from the dealer. He regularly sends me screenshots of the car as it looks on his internal ordering system. It has had BW-27 confirmed/scheduled for the last ~4 weeks, so I expected him to tell me yesterday it was progressing along nicely. However, the screenshot looks the same as it did 2 weeks ago. Still BW-27 "scheduled" but not moved along any further. We're into BW 28 now... I'm fearful this semi-conductor shortage is possibly going to push it out, but I had hoped/assumed that once it was scheduled for BW 27, it would be built on week 27. -

Hi guys, has anyone here ever known it to happen for a car to have a fully confirmed BW and for that week to come and go and car still not gone into production? My car was (and still is, as of yesterday) confirmed BW27, which was last week, but it still has a status of “scheduled” rather than “in production” on the dealer system. I’m hoping it’s a short delay (maybe the system wasn’t fully up to date as of yesterday morning?) but fearful it could be a long one and I’ll see that BW27 pushed way out. Maybe it’s not uncommon for production to slip by a few days? I did think that once it was confirmed for a particular week, it was confirmed and entered production that week, but who knows these days. -
Your door is scuffed too. Unfortunately to get that 100% right you’ll have to paint the new wing and the door and possibly blend into the rear door.

Any experiencing a Paint Defect - 18 Plate
JoeGTI7 replied to Mattywright's topic in VW Golf R MK7 Chat
I've seen it many times before. Its most likely due to stone chips and then a power washer making it a tad worse. -
Ah they cost them a fair chunk more than that. They retail at near 1k per rim. There's no chance they have a 600 euro margin on them 😃
-
Some story Noel! I'd heard sketchy details on this saga from the chap who's interested in buying your old wheels 😌 Sounds like they're a nightmare to deal with! I guess you did OK in the end though, replacing 4 prets is a costly lesson for the idiots. Its a wonder they didn't damage the new wheels when fitting them to the car....
-
Front bumper? Probably a stone chip which broke the lacquer and the problem spread over time. Rare enough to see this on factory paint I think. For me it would suggest that the bumper was repaired (badly) before.
-
You have an itch for an R since I left you for dead on the Ted Run 😀
-
Oh of course there could be other mistakes... who knows.... sure many cars might have mistakes that go totally un-noticed as they're not visually obvious. There's every chance that the bumper shell is identical on the R-Line so it could be just a matter of swapping out the few bits of trim. There's also the possibility that the car left the factory with the correct bumper but "lost" it somewhere between Wolfsburg and the dealers.
-
I said it in my earlier post but this could be a much simpler fix than you think. If the R and the R-Line bumper are identical barring the grills / black trim inserts, etc, then it should be easy to get this sorted out. No full bumper swap or painting will be needed. Just need to compare the part numbers of an R-Line and R bumper. They may be identical...

Annoying Buzz/Vibration from Centre Console/Air Vents on Mk7.5

It might well have been the sound-actuator in my case too. Probably was vibrating off the loose scuttle panel and when I secured the scuttle panel, the buzzing stopped... -

You might be onto something re under the bonnet. I remember in my R I had something similar and it did seem to be coming from the dash. But one day I was topping up the washer fluid and I noticed that the scuttle panel (the plastic trim under the wipers) looked a bit loose and the rubber seal around it didn't look too secure either. So I poked at that a bit and re-fastened a couple of loose-feeling clips... removed the rubber seal and re-fitted it. I never heard the buzzing noise again... -
Try Allianz or An Post. Both were significantly cheaper for me for my last renewal (~600 euro versus 1k+ with most of the others). I went with Allianz in the end. Bit of a lottery though... no doubt when my next renewal comes up I'll get more magic numbers thrown at me...
-
Wow, that is pretty random! But it's not the first time I've seen cars come with very obvious mistakes in the build. Ones I remember: - a GTI with one GTD headlight (missing the red stripe on one side) - a car with leather spec'd and one of the door cards having the cloth insert - black prets (when silver were spec'd) It would also make me wonder if it was damaged in transit and the bumper was swapped somewhere between the factory and the dealers. It might not require the full bumper to be replaced... maybe the only difference is the grills? Worth checking...

My Dad’s new Tiguan is like that. A very nice and subtle led strip all around the perimeter of the roof opening. It looks excellent. I suspect the Golf’s much shorter and lower roof line prevents it from being truly “panoramic”. There’s not enough room for the glass to slide back into!
-
Probably a stone chip - you're lucky it wasn't a centimetre either side of it! As above, those trims actually pop out really easily, get your fingers under it and tug. Fairly cheap to replace too.
-
Exactly the same thing used to happen to me. I had it back to them at least 3-4 times, I had the "special" lube applied, and various parts replaced. It always seemed to be "fixed" for a day or two and then came back. Actually I think on one occasion I could hear it as I drove out of the dealers lol.
-
I had a creak from the front left too in my old R. It was most noticeable in dry weather and only after the car had done a few miles (ie never from cold). And only when manuevering at low speeds. I had the dealers investigate it numerous times. Shock, top mount, bushings were all replaced / lubricated. Each time, I thought they’d sorted it but within a day or two I could hear it again. So unfortunately I just learned to put up with it. Never resolved it.
-
12 Miles?! WTF. Go in and collect it yourself!
-
I've heard the MK8 will start appearing around the middle of next year but the performance versions usually take a while longer. So I'd say it'd be 2020 before we see the GTI, maybe longer again for the R. I can see myself looking too when that happens
-
Imo if you’re serious about selling it you really need to rethink your asking price. You can’t compete with main dealers offering long warranties, comeback and finance. Or make tentative enquiries with VW dealers to see if they’d buy it off you. Might do better than you’d think with that approach.
-
Yup some sh1thead tried and failed to nick your mirror cap(s). Same thing happened to mine last year except in my case they were “successful”. I had screw driver marks all over the black part as well so if you’re fussy you’ll need to replace that too - but that part is cheap - less than a tenner per side if I recall.
