  1. Hi Peeps, I have a 2019 7.5 Estate with DCC and 83k miles (owned since 35k and 1.5 years old), and at its last service and MOT (by VW in UK) it was noted that one of the front shock absorbers was beginning to "mist" and this was a sign of impending failure, though they said it wasn't critical. They quoted around £550 - £600 to replace just the one. When i bought the car I didn't know that it had had Racing Line lowering springs fitted to it. It was a super hard ride and I subsequently hit a pothole and cracked one of the Pretoria's. I opted to change the Racing Line springs out for Eibachs - as this was cheaper than finding oem VW springs to put back on, and still maintained a little lowering which i didn't mind aesthetically. The suspension has always been a bit noisy, especially when on comfort mode, and don't know if this is normal. It's less noisy on Normal and Race modes. I have only subsequently read about the DCC needing "resetting", on a lift with the wheels dangling - and don't know if this was done then the Racing Line Springs were originally fitted, and the people who fitted the Eibachs said they'd not heard of doing this - and they're a VAG performance tuning shop(!) so don't think this was done by them either (should i NOT go back there??). Is this definitely a *real* thing? I've never had the car with oem springs so don't know how the default ride is, and how much the DCC setting *should* change the ride feel. • Is the misting indeed a sign of impending doom? • Should I get VW to replace it? • Is replacing only 1 of them silly? • Is having the lowering springs fitted, and not necessarily having the DCC reset the probable cause of the early failure (and so the other three will need replacing soon also)? • Is 83k miles a reasonable length of time for the shocks to live? • Are there non-VW options to consider (only if cheaper/betting with the existing Eibachs)? It's a family car, not a track car, and gets mostly driven in DCC Comfort mode. I love the car, but don't have money to throw at it for no good reason. I can't justify to the wife spending money on purely aesthetic things like getting the rims redone (of boy do they need it!), or the paintwork fixed and ceramic coated etc. Thoughts appreciated!
  2. Looking at sticking some -25mm H&R springs on the estate and have DCC. Got a fitting quote from a garage I have used a lot in the past and they offered DCC re-calibration for an extra £120. Has anyone done this, not really sure what it would do and if really required?. Cheers all.

  4. Expect from @Booth11 because she ticked every thats worth having on her mega spec lol i had my car for 8-9 months now and Im starting to love car more since updates have made it more liveable …I might save some money by ditching the black paint and just keep it white and used to money towards the bigger wheels (the reason why I didn’t get white I was scared it look like cheapo white van colour) I’m glad I selected the winter pack I don’t know what I would do without it. Maybe I might add the HK audio …. The standard speakers are good but I just want a little more bass.
  5. Afternoon everyone! I hope everyone is safe and well. Just brought a Golf R cant ell you haw many time I open the front door or look out the window to admire it, I've got a feeling the Mrs will be puncturing the tyres real soon! I'm really just reaching out to get advice on what i might need to consider when fitting lowering springs to my car purely because of the DCC. I really don't want to mess that up. I know lots of people have fitted either VWR's or Eibach's to DCC cars but no one as far as I can see has really shed any light on what the fitment process was like and weather or not you have to do some sort of calibration to the DCC. I might be worrying about nothing and the fitting process might be bog standard one like any other lowering spring but just wanted to make sure. I also found out that the lights need to be re calibrated through the OBD port? If anyone has any info please let me know it will be massively helpful to me and maybe others that are thinking about doing the same. And any garage recommendations would be awesome you just cant underestimate finding a good garage its so so important. I,m not sure if there is a thread or part of this forum where you can find garage recommendations by area? Thanks for looking guys really appreciate you spending time to read this if you have.
  6. hey guys i am experiencing a vibration at speed 70+ to 77 Mph as mentioned on @Scanner thread who seems to have the same problem... as quoted "the car has on a few occasions had a strong vibration throughout the cabin when travelling at 70-85 mph. Seems to happen on very well surfaced roads and is less noticeable on rougher surfaces" but now as my plot thickens i feel it deserves its own thread. long story short is i have a 2019 estate DCC PAN ROOF current wheels fitted are a set of brand new RV019's with ps4's, i have attempted to balance the wheels 3 times my next step was to get road force balance but i didn't get a chance to, so decided to let VW have a look. below is an extract of the techs video report, can anyone give advice on what they think it may be, surely not all 4 of my wheels are not buckled i've probably only done 800 miles on them, does this look like a wheel bearing problem??
  7. So i found this the other day too, rust around the DCC connection on the rear shocks. 3yr old 20k miles lives in garage at night.
  8. New to the forum and Just need a little guidance. I'm looking to buy a used golf R, probably 14 or 15 plate with a budget of around 20k. I've done lots of reading on the forum and think I've narrowed down my spec to white or Lapiz Blue with DSG, ideally Nav and I really like the idea of DCC. Is is there anyway to tell if the car has DCC ? i.e are there are any extra buttons etc. Was DCC an optional extra on its own when new or did it form part of another pack or tick box when originally ordered ? i've scoured the classifieds as well as Manhein and BCA auction sites, but DCC rarely appears in the specs. Apologies if any of the above are daft questions, still trying to learn as much as possible about the R before pulling the trigger...
  9. I am seeking clarification about what the DCC (£830) option actually provides as I think I have previously misunderstood it. I found some discussion on here from last october but that was mainly about just identifying whether a car had DCC or not. If you don't have DCC, the selectable driving modes (eco, sport/race, normal, individual) change the settings for the steering, engine and ACC. In other words, not the suspension. Is that correct? From the Golf owners manual, the DCC "constantly adjusts the suspension characteristics to match the road surface, etc". If you have DCC, you also get an extra driving mode (Comfort), which sounds like it does change the suspension set up, as the description talks about driving on poor quality road surfaces. I have not specified DCC on my FL car (which will come with "sports suspension" as standard) so would like to clear on what I am (not) getting! Thanks
  10. I looked at the Golf R perhaps since launch and I went from "meh" to "I'll get one". I also evaluated other options: A45 AMG (way too unreliable, even I would've got it with a huge discount), M140i (not a proper M car, not so refined in ride quality, and it would keep me up in the nights because I didn't sell one of my kidneys to get the M2 ), Audi S3 (again big discount if I get it new but I tend to lean towards the reviews that always give the edge to the Golf R in terms of sharpness). Now if I get the Golf R I have couple of options: 1. Get one used. I can find one with low mileage (<30k km) pretty nice options, 3 years old, DSG, 5 doors, DCC for 30k euros. 2. Get the facelifted model. I got a quote from a German dealer with some pretty interesting discount for 39k (DSG, 5 doors, DCC, Active info display and some other options) The question is keep the 9k in my pocket and leave with less pops and crackles from the exhaust, one gear less, 10 hp less and one big display less. What you do? Do you think there will be a noticeable upgrade on the facelifted model (may a bit more oversteer to come closer to the Focus RS)?
