luton-stu
Has anyone installed dashcams in their Golf’s? I am looking at Next Base IQ front and rear or a Road Angel but wanted to see how they look in situ, especially how the wiring is routed. Don’t want to ruin the look of a beautiful new car interior but would like some parking security after getting my old car knocked in a station car park. Thanks for any useful advice or pictures Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks for any useful advice or pictures Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I haven’t yet fitted a dashcam in my 8.5 but has one in mk 8R and 7R, but I went for Blackvue dual channel dashcam. There’s some photos in this thread of it in-situ https://www.vwroc.com/forums/topic/38413-bec’s-lapiz-8r/?do=findComment&comment=580048 holy_piranha and luton-stu

This time around Ive gone for two separate Garmin dashcams which are linked via the Garmin Drive App - I find this works better when accessing the dashcams to retrieve footage. I did contemplate the Nextbase IQ 4k, I particularly liked the ability to set it up for remote live view when in parking mode without the need for more hardware. However, I decided the front dashcam was too big and was worried about potential battery drain. Also, at the time of buying (December), I read quite a few reports indicating that the full functionality has not yet been released. I don't know whether this has improved since. Out of interest John, which Garmin cams did you go for as I’m contemplating a change from Blackvue?

I went for the 67w for the front, the Mini 3 for the rear and connected them to power via an OBD cable.

All very good points … I agree with your logic completely I have the holy trinity … Immo, Tracker, and Dash Cam. Personally went with the Garmin Mini 2, as it has the smallest print, and can be invisible to me when driving, and to anyone outside as to not attract unwanted attention. Thanks so much for posting these pics! I think this might be the way I go. I have over analyzed these cameras so many damn times, then I just end up closing all the tabs in my browser in frustration, lol. This low profile looks like what I'd want. Is yours hooked up to power or do you just recharge it regularly? What radar detector do you have and did you tap into power from the mirror? Thanks!! No battery in it, it is very small, so all is wired up (you can see the connector on it, in the last picture. It is 1/3 the size of the whole camera 🙂). Valentine V1gen2 Hooked up to my phone via BT to have a big screen with all the warnings. Both are hardwired to the fuse box. Done professionally, not by me. The installer said they don’t recommend a mirror tap, in general, and prefer to create their own line for each product added. Also, I bought the Parking Mode Adapter, so my camera can potentially work when the car is turned off (stopping when battery voltage gets lower, to preserve it). This can all be defined through the Garmin app. You also have to buy the polarizing lens, to see better in the sunlight, unless in the 3rd gen Garmin integrated it. Rossdh91
Thinking about putting a couple of dashcams in my car too. Had them installed professionally before with them being hardwired but despite reputable places doing the job, I still had issues with battery drain etc so this time around I just want them running on battery power. Anyone got any recommendations in this department?

Got an auto electrician popping them in next week, looking at his previous work on super cars I am hoping for a nice clean install that is almost unnoticeable from the drivers seat. The live speed camera warnings will be good a complement the google maps warnings that are sometimes out of date. Combined with a meta Trak I think I have done everything I can to protect my new toy.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk nn7man

GE90
Regarding dashcams, I installed this, as I have had one for some time in a another vehicle in the family where it proved invaluable when our car was reversed into. Great bit of kit. Easy to install and download content when required. https://fitcamx.com/collections/volkswagen/products/fitcamx-dash-cam-for-volkswagen-golf-mk8-gte-gtd-gti-r Booth11
