Stolen 8.5R

Not sure which section I should post this and it is developing details, but had car stolen this morning.

House broken into, only one car key was stolen from rear of hallway. 3 very young people then clamber into car and drive it away.

VW app tracker tracks it to a location 4 miles away, but police visited and nothing there, but close to canal, so maybe they found VW tracker and threw it in canal?

Forensics at house now. I have been running car in, never exceeding 4,000 revs. They didn't care and noise on CCTV is very loud and well rev'd as they disappear.

only good news is none of use are hurt and nothing else stolen

Scumbags...so so sorry we work so hard for these things and they come along and spoil it...glad you are okay.

What part of the country...just to add it maybe worth you looking round the last location as police probably did a quick drive by...most times they will park them up for 24 hours and then return although nowadays they know the location of the tracker.

They are Rats 🐀 Sorry to hear that Kevin ☹️ It’s absolutely disgusting, they have no shame what so ever. Glad to hear everyone is ok though, but i can appreciate that it will be very unsettling. If i remember correctly you got your car from Solihull so you must be in that area, Birmingham is just bad. Everywhere’s is subject to these scrouts but i follow several accounts about lost or stolen from Birmingham seeing that large part of my family live up around Birmingham and its just really bad and when i go up to visit i just won’t take my car for that reason ☹️ I hope you get a replacement or at least you are not left out of pocket.

I’m so sorry that your car has been stolen Kevin.  It’s beyond gutting. I’m glad you and your family are all safe but you must be feeling all sorts of emotions.   Plus it’s not just the theft itself but everything rise that ensues.

These people (and I use that world very loosely) are just utter scum. I hope they get what they deserve.

Hi, to add to the confusion, I was told mine was being built week 48, I took delivery 8th January, got the extras and although I ordered the park assist option back in September 2024, I appear to have the park assist plus rather than PRO version.

Does anyone know how you can upgrade to the PRO system and thus be able to use a phone to park the car? I have the 4 extra sensors in my bumpers.

thanks

@kjg169 Just a suggestion Kevin but maybe make the car hot to handle, place it everywhere you can on social media like the likes of stolenmidlands, stolenukofficial, stolen cars & bikes midlands and maybe solihull FB and Birmingham FB groups #hashtag it in every way you can and get your friends and family to share.

Hi Bud,

This is really terrible news and I'm sorry to hear it. We're like one big family on this forum and when it happens to one of us, it impacts us all. The main thing is that you and your family are safe. It's only a piece of metal at the end of the day! Did you have GAP insurance?

This is a timely reminder for all the Golf R owners that the Golf R remains a highly desirable vehicle of choice to be stolen by organized crime groups that operate across the country. There is suggestion they have links with "insiders" at the DVLA who provide them keeper details of vehicles they are looking to steal so anyone could be targeted. We all have a duty and responsibility to safeguard our property to prevent our vehicles being used for criminal purposes that endanger themselves, the public and law enforcement who end up having to chase it. Please ensure you take practical steps to safeguard your vehicle:

- Keep your keys out of view and hidden.

- Fit a ghost immobilizer.

- Have a professional tracker fitted. (As this case shows, the tracker that comes with the Golf R can easily be removed.)

Equally important, review your home security and upgrade as appropriate to minimise the risk of keys being stolen.

Additionally, for anyone who has a garage that’s currently just used as a dumping ground but is large enough to accommodate a Golf-sized car, get rid of all that stored rubbish so the car can live in the garage when it’s not being used. Out of sight is out of mind, so hopefully any scumbags perpetrators will then just pass by.

I think most of us are pretty good at taking precautions to safeguard our property to reduce the chance of theft etc, especially when we have cars that we know may be targeted, and many here on this forum probably do more than most in that respect.  But let’s not place the responsibility of preventing the activities of criminals and the perpetrators of organised crime on the owners of said property, or guilt trip owners for the unlawful activities of others.

I absolutely agree but with the amount of new Golf R owners that have joined the community since their new purchase, me included, I want this to be the first and LAST such incident so nobody else has to go through what Kevin has, and remind them of what steps they can do to prevent the same happening to them. We shouldn’t have to do anything that I’ve suggested but unfortunately, the world isn’t like that anymore.

I’m so sorry to hear about this. Unbelievable. Good luck with whatever happens next in terms of insurance claims, police reports, paperwork, etc, etc.

And of course, make sure you do whatever is necessary for your and your family’s mental well-being after such an invasion.

So sorry.

Hi

it is interesting discussion and actually very debatable as to what to do and police stated various examples such as

1) person being forced at knifepoint to reveal ghost sequence. In my case the key was easy to find once you broke in. My house has been broken in, but they didnt even take the wallet/ handbag next to the keys, nobody was injured.

2) my vw tracker located car, but police were slightly too slow to get there.

3) they were just after a key and have taken a piece of metal. But they didn't rumage through or take any sentimental items.

As bad as i feel at present, eventually i will get a replacement
