DustyBones
Yesterdays task was to fit the heavy duty undertray. Its the one fitted as standard to the Alltrack, but I also believe it was offered as an option in Europe as the "Rough Terrain Kit" But that might be just internet hearsay.... Anyways, piece of cake to fit, as long as you have a little mechanical love and sense. Mine actually will have to come back off as I discovered one of the retaining clips was missing from factory (I think). So had to order a handful (some spares) and will have to take the take the new underlay off to add this extra clip. But my OCD will not let me run without it...hey ho..... There are some other parts required as well - namely two metal supports that bolt onto the lower front chassis legs. This is the one wee bit that takes a little time, When I redo mine for the clip I will document better how to tackle getting the bolts in. It's not difficult, just a bit of a fiddle. the rest is straightforward. Am well chuffed as a plastic sump replacement is way more expensive than the sum of all these parts (approx £320 all in) Probs can be done a bit cheaper but I made sure I had all the bolts etc. Some pics Will take better step by step pics asap. cheers Kneel, Booth11, NRW and 2 others
SpursMadDave
Lots of protection, hopefully won't cause any problems not having the venting on the drivers side Sent from my VOG-L09 using Tapatalk Bob

I did some long runs yesterday 114-150 miles, including a load of launches and gave it some serious work. Oil and water all normal and remained steady. The protection is good and am pretty chuffed. It was fitted cos some of the roads I have to travel on in Gods Country especially in the winter months are hideous with a lot of very hard packed ice and rocks/ruts. cheers Kneel, Booth11 and 75Type2

If you’re doing more step by step pics, it would be good to post them up in a dedicated thread in the forums How To section. Then it’s easier for members to find a would be a good reference for anyone following your lead. Just a thought.

Often hear this Addition mentioned, (thanks Charlesthehumblemechanic and Paul Barrett, DAP) and surprised more Owners here don’t do it. Especially after lowering rideheight by whatever means. Peace of mind for your Sump. Thanks 👍

Granted a AWD Golf may get further in some conditions than a regular 2WD car, but it pays to understand the limitations & capabilities of whatever you are currently driving. I used to have a Landcruiser 80 series wagon, modded for more extreme off-roading, and it could go places that scared me (and I was the driver) ! 75Type2
Just ordered the kit from my local TPS for £316 inc VAT and being delivered tomorrow. Now that I'm using the car on a fairly regular basis again, I realised that the road salt/brine and aluminium oil sump I have fitted are not going to mix well, so this should provide a decent level of protection to reduce the oxidisation of the aluminium and protect the sump from any unwieldily road debris. marshy
robdfr
This seems a bit overkill , why not just fit the audi S3 or the Skoda alternative ? think mine was £60 from TPS if I remember correctly and gives far more protection than the standard undertray. I have one of those fitted and while it`s an improvement on the standard undertray it`s still a bit flimsy. It might be alright for you townies who play chase around fast food car parks though 😉

I ordered mine (the lighter one, with the DSG cooling duct) from my dealer's parts department and had it fitted during the annual service. Engine under tray: 5Q0825236N - £60 Extra fixing bolts: 3x WHT000729A - not charged, just a stock item I think They fitted it FoC. It's not going to help if you run into a big rock, but should easily protect from normal road debris and muck.
