Tried it in both the Ign / permanent live positions but no joy. I tried different adapters - confirmed to be working on SWMBO's car - still no joy. I'm thinking that it would be extremely odd if both sockets are faulty. Does anyone have any ideas? Also, just to fuel the conspiracy theory even further, the next time I started the car I received the thanks for adding Dynamic lighting message 🤣 VW life !! You know that Dynamic lighting message is VW giving you the 🖕 😂 12v sockets working fine on mine. Scudgie

Also, just to fuel the conspiracy theory even further, the next time I started the car I received the thanks for adding Dynamic lighting message 🤣 VW life !! @Scudgie: Hi. OK - the set-up for the ciggy sockets (yeah - not a politically correct descriptor) ain't complicated -as shown below (the 2 x sockets are U19 and U5 ) Note: I've stripped-out all the non-essential information from the VW wiring-diagram for simplicity. Also, the VW material doesn't identify the location of the sockets - but almost certainly, U19 will be the socket that's physically closer to the fuse. I'm not sure how familiar you are with wiring diagrams - so forgive me if you already know this stuff. Hopefully as you can see, the power supply for U19 is extremely simple as is the circuit for U5 with the exception that the +12V wire for this separate socket is routed via TIUM - which is a coupling point on one of the pillars in the car (not sure which, but I suspect the A pillar) So, the pivotal piece of information about this fault from your words is "both sockets are faulty". My first thought was that maybe the terminations on TIUM were the cause of this fault - but clearly if both sockets are affected, the cause must be electrically upstream of U19. My hunch based on the circuit diagram above (and given that you have checked the fuse) is that it would be prudent to check the integrity of the mating fuse sockets for SC52 - if these are OK, the only remaining point of interest is the wire-joint that connects together the separate +12V wires to U19 and U5 Don PS: Note the obvious error in the VW wiring diagram: Notice KL15a on fuse SC52 and also on U5. This means that the circuit is what's known as Terminal 15 volts- which means that the power supply is live ONLY with ignition-ON. However, U19 contains the descriptor KL30a. This means Terminal 30 Volts - which means that the power supply is live REGARDLESS of the ignition switch status! Clearly the fuse can't provide both voltage forms. The nerds reading this will be as outraged as am I - I'm sure!! 😉 Scudgie
MrBlobby
Update on my paddle shifters problem the dealership still not budging. VW customer care useless they relayed they have asked the dealership to contact me a few times and to call me but they have never done so and are also ignoring my email communication, I told VW rep that can you not push the dealership to accept my rejection three times on the different calls I’ve had and wasn’t too happy with her response to that, I don’t think she’s applied any pressure at all. Finally got the finance company Santander involved. They are looking into it and have reached out to the dealership, my guess is they are still going to say tech have done multiple road tests cannot replicate the problem here’s the job sheet no fault codes stored blah blah blah. funnily enough I told Santander about the issues with the paddles other owners of this facelift model are experiencing on this forum and the lady in customer relations said they wouldn’t take that as supporting evidence as it can be “bias” huh. Honestly feel like going to the dealership before opening time and blocking the entrance until I get my money back I’m so ******** off nearly two months of finance payments and car insurance I’m paying for a car I know 100% is faulty and provided the video evidence to show that. I’m going mental, I’m absolutely fuming. Scudgie
Scudgie
Thanks @dv52 I have managed to resolve the issue - no 12v was being supplied to the power outlets because the feed from the fuse box wasn't seated correctly and not connected to the fuse. Now sorted. dv52 and Booth11

tommymortago
Update on my error bongs, as I drove over 800 miles recently. On the way to the destination about halfway i got the usual “Cannot show the total distance, please initiate selfdestruction”, but it wasn’t followed by the “let me show you all the errors I know” bongs. Just my driving modes disappeared again. Driving each day at the destination produced a new error for me: “Oil system is faulty, please visit workshop” - weirdly it did not disappear with any restarts but after opening “oil level” menu in the infotainment it was gone. 400 miles back home were flawless not even a single error, I expected the error fireworks to start at the gas station, but nothing. therefore I’m clueless about how to trigger it to finally get it sorted out at dealership. 🥶 Booth11
AHG
Just try to film it when it happens, that should suffice.
tommymortago
Unfortunately video is not enough for dealer, they have to replicate it. Scudgie

I am seriously considering it...... if they just try to fob me off with the can't replicate the error crap then I think that will be the final straw. My car hasn't been to the dealer to look at the bong fest yet because the earliest date available was 17 June. I have 3 obdeleven scan reports demonstrating the error messages (the last one being last night when it happened again - 84 faults!!!). I also have a video of it happening. I experienced issues with the 8r I had previously and I tgink I demonstrated more than enough patience waiting whilst VW were failing miserably in trying to resolve them - the steering wheel being a prime example. But the thing that has really irritated me this time around is the dealer's response to my concern about the time it's taking to get my car looked at, telling me that it's perfectly ok to drive with the engine management light on and not to worry if my car breaks down because I have Breakdown cover. That's when I made my complaint. MrBlobby

It’s such a shame (crime) that it comes to the point where owners are seriously considering rejecting new cars because of continued errors that cannot be replicated, and VW really have no idea how to deal with, other than telling owners to ignore them. I feel your frustration John. Is your engine light still on. It smacks of desperation that VW are telling you to drive round with the engine light constantly on. On a less serious note, finally my error record is beaten. Phew! Thanks John. 🤣 Same for you @tommymortago, no resolution in sight to the issues you’re experiencing. 😞 I’ve not yet reaching breaking point with mine as only the one bong fest so far plus the paddle issue, but I might feel differently if the former was happening with the frequency it is on your cars. Davey-c
This is the exact reason why I recently got rid of my R 20 Years. Back and forward to VW 9 times over the last year and a half for the engine management light issue. They carried out software updates, replaced sensors, vacuum pumps and harnesses. Lost all love for the car so sold through Motorway. It’s a real shame as they really are fantastic cars to drive. If only VW could get their act together but it doesn’t look like they can at the minute, seems even the facelift cars are having issues. I think the 20 Years will be my last VW for a while. Sorry to hear that, that is sad and a real shame, they should be embarrassed. I changed my mk8 to the 8.5 as a last roll of the dice because i had completely lost the love for that car although my list was a lot less than yours and others and it was mainly bug free, but still two steering racks and all the back and fourth and the dealer being useless did enough, also felt it was a Friday car and on pick up it had damage and just felt jinxed. We will see if time will win me over, i have to say I do love the new car like i loved the old car but the old car has a left a bitter taste and this car still needs to win me over but seeing all these errors on here, plus what i went through does not give me confidence.
