COMPARISON. Standard Vs DTUK Vs Remap. Dyno Results & Test.

Recommended Posts

Well…

This is certainly going to cause heated debates but i feel it needs to be shown as there aren’t really any direct comparisons and like for like tests etc..

I ran my Manual 7 R standard for around 1000miles before getting a DTUK box.

I ran the box for a further 4500 miles and was pretty much faultless (bar one occasion where it didn’t like some crap petrol i had to put in before i ran out!)

I now have a remap by Unicorn Motor Developments in Manchester.

Before i post the dyno results there are some things id like to say.

The DTUK box is great for what it is. Its a way of squeezing out more power from your car whilst protecting your warranty should any problems arise.

Its very easy to fit and is a great middle ground.

It improves on the standard car a fair amount. Although not in my opinion as much as some people have stated.

The car was run in FWD with the plug pulled.

All runs were with a Revo intake fitted.

Standard Results:

293bhp + 275ft/lbs

DTUK Tuning Box on Original Software V1 on Setting 3+3

321bhp + 301ft/lbs (gains of 28bhp & 26ft/lbs)

Enicorn Remap

358bhp + 404ft/lbs (gains of 65bhp & 129ft/lbs!)

The tune is also much safer as you can see on the AFR graph..

The car is awesome now. The torque is immense in any gear and the first two gears are now MUCH improved (as well as everything else)

Thanks. :afro:

Mightily impressive improvement!!!!!! Still blown away by the torque, absolute mental. Impressive

That m5 sounded lovely and was all over the shop, but Christ, he tried to get away but just couldn't make any ground. Wish I was challenged as many times as you are :(

Good write up Addaman, interesting comments. Your figures look low, is that because of where the measurements were taken? I'm currently on ver2 software DTUK but it's off my car right now for servicing and the car is unbelievably sluggish!! Can't believe the box is only adding 28hp, the difference is so marked.

Well some would say low, others would say accurate!

Some of the standard figures other cars have made on dynos certainly raise an eyebrow. 308-312 for a standard car is in my opinion unlikely.

Either way it's about the difference in the standard and the tuned figure, not the actual figures them selves.

So for instance I could say it's made 310bhp standard and 375bhp tuned. Same diff.

Id have to agree with you Dave, moreso as the only cars that seam to produce low figures are cars that are dyno'd at establishments with a vested interest to sell an alternative to the box. Is that a coincidence, who knows...  :dontknow:

All i know that we have dyno sheets from DTE in germany showing 295hp and 353hp using V1 (map 3 plus 2 (LEO map)), we also have various dyno sheets supplied to us by customers showing 295-358 on another MAHA dyno, and then another at Wallace Performance showing 368hp (no standard run)and then another at P-Torque in Wolverhampton showing 375hp, and the latest at MSL Performance showing 347 wheel HP..

So either all of these dyno's are incorrect or AdDaman's box is/was faulty which is the reason behind his low figures or is there another reason behind this... Ill leave you to answer that one  :cheesy:  :cheesy:  :cheesy:  :cheesy:

Regardless of figures, the box is slower on the road than a map as proven by me and my mate a couple of times, his car on a box actually made more power than my mapped car on a third party's rollers, although it was different days and not the same time. My car has the torque capped a bit too so it's a bit easier on the DSG.

My figures were standard 309 bhp and 312lbft torque. Can clearly see the dip in 3rd standard...One of the main reasons I wanted it remaped..not a smooth delivery of power.

Now at 350bhp and 378lbft torque but Will at P-torque who mapped it said by time he had finished it was running high intake temps so expect the figures to be higher if ran when cooler.

Still more than pleased with results and now much more fun to drive.

On a side note I did talk to my dealer about it and they said worst case anything goes bang that anything the remap would have effected would not be under warranty. He also said that it's unlikely if I did have a claim that they would check anything anyway as it's business for them and that if nothing goes wrong they won't see car again as it's straight to an auction after the lease is up. So no regrets my end...touch wood :)
