Sure thing, but do you not like the idea of being a fighter pilot 😂

Remember all the buttons Kit had ? and the Hoff meister managed it well.

Airwolf also had a fair amount of buttons and Stringfellow Hawk managed.

Once upon a long time ago I got shortlisted for RAF Officer pilot training assessment and went through the assessment at Biggin Hill, but didn’t make pilot or navigator cut but got offered air traffic control (declined it), so maybe I hold a grudge against having to turn lots of things off in a cockpit/cabin.  🤣

I love tech and find lots of the aids in the Golf really useful (Side Assist, traffic sign recognition, ACC etc etc) but Stop Start and Lane Assist are not amongst those , and so I still prefer not to have them and prefer to just forget about them completely.

That’s a pity and a shame. I can imagine you as a pilot Becs, i mean that as compliment, you are thorough and you have an eye for detail.  When i was a kid i dreamed of being a fighter pilot. I once sat a test to become a train driver, but i did not quite make the final stage. Before Covid i was a Train dispatcher/platform controller for 5 years, which i loved because of all

the technical parts of keeping an eye on the trains network in out of the station but also keeping an eye on the wider network. I also loved all the structured safety procedures that needed to be followed due to working around the 25000 overhead voltage and the 750 3rd rail.

But i agree and can see why everyone would rather switch it off permanently.

Shame about not getting to be a train driver Kev, we can wallow in our collective career failure. 😄My failure was 36 years ago so I’m just about over it. 😂

The dispatcher/platform controller (I’ll resist Thomas Tank engine controller jokes 😄), sounds a great job Kev, and sounds like you enjoyed doing it.

But back on topic, SS and LA will continue to be the bug bear for some of us who find tapping a couple buttons on the screen an effort too far. 🤣

I also did the RAF pilot /navigator assessment at Biggin Hill - did not get the required grade for fighter pilot but did get the required grade for navigator.

Small world!   Did you go on to being a navigator in the RAF Chris?

A reduction of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th items on that list would be welcomed by me.  It’s not a helicopter.

I’d go for 2nd and 5th p, for my 8R, as it has no speed warning and I don’t mind LA.

But yeah, not a helicopter, just requires a similarly complex starting process 🙂

It is easy enough, but it would be even nicer to have it coded off permanently and have to do nothing.

For sure, I keep my Pro OBD11 subscription active waiting g for the day we can.

I did turn S/S off in my spouse’s Tiguan and it is great (also gave it HBA, adjustable LA, adjustable speed alert, traffic sign recognition, and some other stuff.

Every time I drive it I start the car and pause, as it takes me a second to remember I don’t have to do anything else there 🙂

Hi All,

I’ve just been watching a golf R YouTube video (about a Mk 8 admittedly) and when the guy switched to race mode using the “R” button the digital drivers display automatically switched to the “R” view with the rev counter at the top. My mk 8.5 doesn’t do this - does anyone else’s mk 8.5 do this or was this feature deleted?

Yes, it does appear to have changed from that in the 8r.

I've no idea why, but I wasn't a fan of the R display in the first place so it's an improvement from my point of view.

Darn, I'd quite like the display to change automatically.  Seems a weird thing to switch off though doesn't it?

I quite liked that change of view too when going into Race. But I recall with the mk8 that quite a few preferred the dash view to not to change.  Maybe VW were listening 👂 😄

Me

I hate the fact that it changes and sometimes doesn’t change back

even when you switch back to other modes

Because of it I can’t just scroll the R button to Indi mode

and have to tap the screen

Positive change IMO

But maybe it’s code-able via OBDeleven (or will be soon)

I get why you and others didn’t like it.  The change is good if it suits the majority of users.   I’ve always liked the view that was the default for Race so it was quite pleasing to me.

At the moment I’m going through a phase of liking a different dash view so not fussed if it doesn’t change or not tbh.
