Surely it'd be much quicker to just get in the car and do it yourself?!

I can't think of a situation that I'd ever use that..

Maybe parking in a spot that is too small to get in or out of the car?   I would never park in a spot like that because I despise door dings

I don’t think most on here would ever entertain taking such a parking spot,  But there’s always some delightful person who parks right up close.to other cars even when there’s no need, so maybe in that circumstance.

Anyone know if it's possible to adjust the parking sensor sensitivity at all?

They are so much more sensitive than my Mk7.5 Golf or my I30n, multiple times now they've engaged the auto emergency braking while I've been backing into a space, even with plenty of room behind/besides the car!

Also can you adjust the volume of the "click" noise you get when pressing the haptic steering wheel buttons?

The volume of the noise goes up with the volume of whatever you are listening to, so if you've had to turn up a very quiet audiobook, or something the clicks are painfully loud when doing anything on the steering wheel 😂

I don’t think there’s any way to alter the sensitivity of the parking sensors in the vehicle menu.  Only the ability to alter the audible sensor sound.

For the steering wheel haptic click, you can’t change the volume of it, it is linked to the general volume setting, however you can turn the click off altogether (I have it turned off on mine).  In the main screen menu tap Sound icon -  then tap Settings (cog icon bottom of side pane) - then deactivate the ‘Tone for other controls’ and the clicks will be turned off completely.

I found out last night about these parking sensors, backing into my garage I thought I hit a wall? Scared the shit out of me lol, when I got out to take a look I still had plenty of room? So yeh these sensors certainly work..

Yeh these sensors are a little too sensitive, I’ve noticed it’s the speed you back in which triggers the sudden stop, so even if you know you’ve got plenty of room you still have to ease it in slowly to avoid that emergency braking..

I don’t think it is a mk8.5 issue but more a AutoPark issue.

Had it in my 8R while a friend without auto-park didn’t have the issue until he switched to a 8.5 (in which auto-park became standard).

What I do is just slide without any gas (either gravity or the automatic throttle that keeps the engine from stalling), keeping my foot on the brake.

I believe this way the car doesn’t ”think” I am accelerating into the obstacle and assumes I’m aware of it as I have my foot on the brake.

I have a building support pillar which I park right next to, and I swerve “into it” to park, and this way it doesn’t brake or interfere.

But it requires the AutoHold to be turned off (mine is always off).

I hate the sensitivity of this on our family XC60 and was hoping I wouldn’t have to put up with the same for my R when it comes! 😢

We have a car park at a school our girls swim at where you need to give some gas to reverse up the hill into the spaces and it’s difficult to balance with hovering the brake, so get far too many auto brake interventions.

Anyone know if you can permanently turn off some of these nanny assist functions so I don’t have to do it every time I get in the car? I despise lane keep assist for example but it always resets? I’ve got start/stop in my favourites so that’s not too bad, but it would be nice to keep that off as well, this is my biggest gripe with modern day cars, I actually find all these systems more of a distraction.🤦🏻

I know that it’s not possible to code Stop Start or Lane Assist of on the 8.5 with Obdeleven. The latter because of the SFD2 protection, and the ability to code off Stop Start has been restricted since earlier models (from some 7.5s onwards iirc).

I think there may one click apps on things like Carista that may be able to do these things but there are risks with one click apps not knowing what’s being changed (unlike coding where you have full control).

Yes you can. You need ODIS with a proper subscription. I have posted somewhere how to do this. @Booth11 has an incredible memory and probably knows where, haha. 8.5s in NAR still have it set to "last setting" for all of these. I don't know why the UK has it set differently - maybe rules/regs around insurance or something?
