As @AHG said in his reply, if SS is not kicking in, it could be because certain required conditions are not being met. One of which is the battery voltage as @Scudgie says. On my previous cars the dashcam draw on the battery would affect SS. Here’s what the owner’s manual states about conditions needed for SS, and when it won’t operate. neilybealy
I noticed in my 8R that mine never stopped as it should and it was due to only being used around town for a month or so. After a blast up the motorway it's working as it should again

I put it down to a battery issue which, in hindsight, I believe was attributable to the amount of faffing I did when installing my dash cams etc....... all doors open, having the car ignition on and the battery probably not getting the chance to recover due to the dash cam parking mode. At the same time I noticed that the alarm indicator on the driver’s door wasn't flashing. That has since resolved itself. Whilst we're on this topic, does anyone know why Start/Stop doesn't work in Eco made? I seem to recall @Booth11 pointing this out and have since noticed it myself when i was stuck in a traffic jam on a motorway run. Seems a bit bizarre to me. 2 hours ago, Booth11 said: The one driving mide you’d expect SS to work in is Eco, so it is odd that it doesn’t. John, just checked and it’s the other way round. With Eco mode SS is on as default as you would expect. The other discussion was about SS turning back on when moving from other modes where the driver had turned it off, turned out the culprit was going into Eco mode and it reverting SS to activated again. It was another member said that Eco turned SS off, but it’s the other way round. I have found (by accident) that there is a way to make it stay on going into Eco but I’m never driving in Eco so don’t care. 😂 Scudgie

It has never activated for me whilst in Eco - regardless of whether I've deactivated SS or not (ok I've only used the mode twice 🤣) Perhaps it's down to one of the parameters you listed previously 🙅♂️

If I’m I default Comfort mode and manually deactivate SS (so the icon turns amber) then swap to into Eco mode, the SS activates and the SS icon turns grey. I’ve found that if I’m in any other mode and turn off SS (which stays off even if I switch between other modes excluding Eco) and then go into Eco SS turns back on. However if I’m in a mode and I’ve turned SS off and then go into any other driving mode before going into Eco, then SS stays off even in Eco. I’ve only used it to test out these things. Once or twice on my 8R I inadvertently went into Eco and noticed when the car didn’t seem to want to move forward at a roundabout. To me it’s ’broken’ mode. 😂 Scudgie

Could you have had the ACC activated? If so, that will brake for you in traffic when you are getting close to a car in front. When this happens you can physically see the brake pedal move. Might you have knocked the ACC button on the left side of the steering wheel and inadvertently activated it? The other time it will brake by itself is to avoid collision but you’d get the big red front assist warning on the dash and an audible alarm with that. neilybealy
Pretty sure it does this when the you’re pressing the brake pedal then the handbrake is applied

I should elaborate , I mean bumper to bumper town traffic. i had ACC on my last golf this is totally different , like a WTF moment. i was thinking maybe some air in the braking system , might have to bleed them myself , see if that solves it. AHG
Seems like a feature not like a bug Air in the system would make your brakes feel mushy all the time Do you have Auto-Hold turned on ? I hate it, but that how it works. You brake, then it takes over as it engages.

robdfr
This car is going to lose my licence , happily driving along the M4 ACC set to 72 mph , the car keeps picking up different speed zones , so I keep having to override it and reset it , then it notifies me it’s a 100 mph zone 🤣 but officer my car said it was 100 mph speed limit. 🤣 where does it get the different speeds from ? Is it only camera based ? Or does it use sat nav ? A few times I was doing the normal 70 mph but it kept telling me it was 50 , I’m sure there had been 50 mph average speed road works on that stretch a while back , but no road signs to say. really confused. and how do I turn it off !
