Driving home in comfort, changed to sport, sat in S6 doing around 65-70mph, pulled the right paddle and it changed up to M7, then about a second later iy switched itself back to S6 and then neither paddle would do anything when I pulled them. Couldn't get it in to manual mode the rest of the way home. Could change driving modes fine but no response from the paddles. Will test again when I head out later 🫣 Yep certainly sounds like it....welcome to the club Tethias

Why oh why is it the customer is left doing the work running around writing emails suffering after spent the best part of £40-£50k …..it’s just shocking No wonder VW are in trouble and not selling very expensive cars at this time. Yes they’ve sold a few 8.5R’s but nothing like the numbers they need to sell as it’s all mainly down to price of these new cars and high monthly payments. I hear this all the time that the market for £20-£25k is doing ok in the used market but where can you buy a new car for these prices nowdays other than a Duster! No wonder the car industry is all over the place. Id kick off if you don’t get a response within a week. It must make you want to reject the car if you get fobbed off.! Yes it's very disappointing....essentially in layman's terms...they are saying...yes it's faulty...we don't know how to sort it...or when we will be able to sort it...but yet they still take the full money each month don't they. When was your car built as previously @TheJetMan’s investigations and feedback was that it was only steering wheels on cars built before November 2024 that might be affected. TheJetMan
Evidence would suggest as this point that ALL Volkswagen Golf R 8.5's are affected. I wouldn't worry too much at this point guys and girls, the factory have confirmed they are aware of the issue and are in the process of designing new multimedia buttons for the steering wheel to prevent them from making the paddles inop. As soon as I have an update I will let everyone know. Tethias, TurboTrev and chillly 1

He has other issues with tech side as we had multiple warnings on the 1st part of our journey yesterday and rear windows kept opening themselves (only about 2 inches). Anyway left car about 4 hours and on return journey had this error similar to @tommymortago It won’t go away, my windows does this at least once in month. It’s the most annoying thing ever. Geeza
Is anyone aware of these issues on the GTI models, just wondered if is was only on the touch style steering wheels. Booth11

How can they refuse to raise an enquiry!? I'd call and make a complaint bud and ask to the speak to service / dealership manager. 100% you've been fobbed off. I had the same issue with the first dealer I took it to. Don't take no for an answer bud. Further update on this. I contacted VW customer care yesterday, explained what had happened at the dealers, and their reluctance to lodge a technical enquiry. I'm now rebooked for the 14th so they can lodge one... whilst im glad I'm finally being listened to, it's still a load of hassle getting down there...then going back for it a few hrs later... Why they couldn't have just done this yesterday I've no idea.

I have my new GTI CS about 6 weeks and zero issues so far... touching wood firmly... I wouldn't be sure that the buttons have anything to do with it though... the steering wheels are the same, bar the haptic/physical buttons. I retrofitted the R DSG paddles to the new car and the process was exactly the same as the old car (which had haptics) Geeza
mahalo
Yes thinking about it - given that the steering wheel on the Mk 8.5R seems to be identical to the steering wheel on the Mk8 R and AFAIK there were no reports of DSG failing to change up/down on the Mk 8 R when going into different driving modes - it would therefore seem unlikely that it is the steering wheel. My instinct would be that it is a software issue with the interface between the DSG control software and the steering wheel software - fix might be revised software or revised control unit.
