Anyone else have a very annoying rattle/buzz from the top door trim just under the drivers window?

Right at the back where it meets the B pillar, circled in blue

My old 7.5 GTI had the same rattle and i never fixed it. It stops if you even gently rest your finger on top of the trim, just very annoying!

Yes, I have it in my mk8.

And a friend has it in his GTI 8.5

(he stuck a piece of something in there, says it solved it)

I thought it may be the center console thing, throwing its rattle sound around the car, but as you said, if I press it even gently it stops for a while.

Let’s follow up on it, as this is the only major gripe I have at the moment, so lucky on the one hand, bit annoyed on the other.

BTW, does it also occur from specific tracks of music for you as well ?

I get it usually due to road being very uneven but also in some specific tracks (like “something” by Lasgo. A bit of an oldy, but so am I 🙂)

No but I had a rattle from somewhere around the centre dash area for a couple days a few weeks back, but it seems to have gone silent (for now).

Sounds can be very deceptive as to where the source really is.

I haven’t yet removed the two bolt caps from either side of rear bottom of the centre console unit (accessible from rear of car with seats moved fully forward), which did rattle on my Mk8 (I removed them), so I’ll likely remove them just to have one less potential source of rattles.

Yes i plan to do this too 😁

The ones from my MK8 are still hanging on the wall of my shed in a small resealable bag 😂 I presume the owner didn’t need them.

In respect to noise i think on the 8 & 8.5 there is some slight noise coming from underneath or behind the glovebox, i believe it’s the insulation / sound detaining itself that flexes with the movement of the car which kind of contradicts what it’s there for 🤔

Funny you should mention small resemble bags, as mine were also in one (with some other bits) and after I posted up my earlier post, I suddenly wondered if I’d put them back in their rightful place before I sold the car, so I checked the bag.  They aren’t in it so I can only assume I did put them back in place but I have zero recollection of doing it.😄

May be startup sequence thing

If you start fiddling with it too early it gets greyed out

try turning on the power, letting it boot for half a minute, then start the engine.

Does it become ok if you change modes ?

(I assume you are talking about the start/stop turn off button going inert, not the function itself not stopping and starting the engine. Otherwise it may be engine temp or other, some conditions are needed for the Start Stop to be viable)

Has anyone had an issue with the stop start function not working in comfort mode?

Yes, this happened to me for around a week around 6 weeks ago. I put it down to a battery issue which, in hindsight, I believe was attributable to the amount of faffing I did when installing my dash cams etc....... all doors open, having the car ignition on and the battery probably not getting the chance to recover due to the dash cam parking mode.

At the same time I noticed that the alarm indicator on the driver’s door wasn't flashing. That has since resolved itself.

Whilst we're on this topic, does anyone know why Start/Stop doesn't work in Eco made?  I seem to recall @Booth11 pointing this out and have since noticed it myself when i was stuck in a traffic jam on a motorway run. Seems a bit bizarre to me.

The one driving mide you’d expect SS to work in is Eco, so it is odd that it doesn’t.
