EXCESSIONOCP
Has anyone noticed that the walk-away locking "chirp" that the car emits if you have keyless enabled doesn't always fire? The car always locks (as evidenced by the door mirrors folding and confirmed in the app) but the "chirp" doesn't always sound.

Whilst I don't have Keyless Access activated on mine, I must admit that I thought the audible chirp when locking is deactivated for all UK models. I have the 'lock when walking away' feature enabled on mine and it chirps once when it locks as you walk away. You have to have that feature enabled in the Vehicle Opening and Closing menu otherwise it doesn't chip on normal keyless locking. 5 hours ago, EXCESSIONOCP said: Has anyone noticed that the walk-away locking "chirp" that the car emits if you have keyless enabled doesn't always fire? I haven't noticed it not chirping each time but probably not paying that much attention to it. I'll listen out each time and see if it misses any. It does chirp (sometimes, but not always!) if you enable the "lock car automatically when you walk away from it" (can't remember exact wording). And it'll double-chirp if it cannot lock, e.g. if one of the doors or boot is open. Scudgie and EXCESSIONOCP

I always listen out for it and the failure is a semi regular occurrence for me. I spoke to the dealer about it and they said that it does chirp at all (so under the same impression that the previous poster was) but it definitely does! chillly
Is anyone else experiencing issues with the vw app ? Mine just says incorrect password. Contacted vw but they are useless. Rebooted both phone and car which makes you lose all settings you’ve done. I wonder is it actually worth the bother just for some driving data 🤷♂️

I had to go through 2 password resets until it behaved. chillly

42ac
I'm sure this must have been mentioned on here before but is anyone experiencing creaky doors while driving. Not quite done 1000 miles and the car sounds like an old wooden ship. It's the seals rubbing against the door jambs, if you push on the door frame when it's closed you hear it. I bought some Gummi-pflege, TBH I don't want to have to use it. This really shouldn't be happening. Never had this issue on any other car I've had. Maybe it will disappear once the door rubbers have bedded in. It sounds like a hundred 1000 mile car not a 1000 mile car!
AHG
Some cases it may disappear after the rubber wears off according to the frame (bedding, sort of), as it happened in my S3 sunroof, but it can take a full year. I prefer not to rub stuff as that means you will have to clean the dirt that attaches to the ointment and reapply it every few months, in some cases. But many I know used it and are very happy with their new found silence. I think @Booth11 got a special VW grease just for that
mahalo
On my 8R, the fit of the passenger door was not properly aligned and it did get squeaky. With the right tools you can adjust the door fit or you could take it to the dealers to get it looked at. Once it was properly aligned then it stopped. The 8.5R door fit and alignment is ok although I have noticed on the 8.5R that shutting both passenger and drivers door requires a firmer shut than on the 8R - given the rate at which these cars come off the production line and the fixed time given to quality check them, you do occasionally get a car slipping through with these type of issues. Booth11
Surprisingly my mk8R didn’t suffer any creaking door seals and window felt seals, which almost all other Golfs I’ve had did. Could be seals needing lubricatong or as @mahalo says, could be alignment is a bit out. Like @mahalo the door alignment on my mk8 could have been better but the 8.5 seems fine in that respect. And no creaks from the door and window seals so far (done just over 2k miles). I have every other Golf I’ve had suffered from crawling door seals and window felts over time. On previous Golfs I have used VW Special Lubricant oil, also known as Krytox (there is a grease too but the oil is best for door seals). This is very good for lubricating the seals and silencing the creaks and importantly lasts considerably longer than Gummi Pflege (I’ve also used that in the past). It’s pricy for a 30ml bottle but a little goes a long way. Easy to apply with a detailing brush or fingertips and then wipe excess off. Part number is G052172A1 However @42ac you could speak to your dealership about the issue and see if they can check the door alignment if that needs any adjustment. Or if it’s not that, why not ask them to cover the cost of a bottle of the special oil.
TheJetMan
To all those who have issues with the paddles randomly stop working - An update from my VW Germany Source: "Hey man, got an update today in regards to the paddles. So, the process seemed to have moved on and the hardware/software side of it is now all ready - but the system integration side still takes a while. I guess it will be around middle of May until the dealers have the official update from the after sales development guys. And then they'll finally have case number and every complaining customer will get his or her paddles fixed." I think I'll have a word with my local dealer, see what they come up with. Could be alignment if your car hasn't had this issue. The door panel gaps all look spot on to me. Funny, small issues like this make you wonder whether you bought the right car until you walk up to it in a car park and think "yeah, that's mine!". I saw the new RS3 yesterday parked near mine, blimey it's a looker but almost £30k more, crazy.

Manual keeps it in manual(unless start/stop hits, then its S). Have a trackday 15th may and will put more stress on the car then, but other then that no issues with gearbox. However. I hear ALOT of wind noises in 160km/h+ speeds. On driver side, but you know, the left of the car . Do you guys have passengers complaining about wind noise? Its coming from the mirror - door. Had a tyre issue so couldnt test more. Check your pressure people AHG and Booth11 1
