JeS10
Yep, that's it gone. Had it since December and it's been stolen as we slept. Lapiz Blue estate. No point giving you the registration number because they'll have changed the plates. You think it won't happen to you, and it does. I live at the end of a cul-de-sac. Police say they've simply spotted me on the road and followed me home. Easy. Stay safe folks. It was a lease. I don't want another one. Don't want anything like it near me. Not worth it, sincerely not worth it. They left the 2017 Volvo V40. Enough said. Maplesyrup, Aidy06 and Stobsie 1
JoeGTI7
I know exactly how you feel. I had a couple of attempts on mine, fortunately I caught them in the act and they didn’t get it. I also live in a very quiet / sleepy area. But I decided it wasn’t worth the aggro and got rid.
TXR301
Really sorry to hear that. Mine is an estate also, and to be honest I figured it wouldn't be in demand as a result.Did they force entry into your home to obtain the keys? That is my nightmare, having two little girls.Hope you're alright.Tim
ashleyman
So they turned up in a 2017 Volvo V40 and left it behind? Or is that your other car that they left alone? sorry for your loss but at least you and your family are safe. Out of interest where are you located? JeS10
Forced entry. Smashed window. Didn't even look at my fancy Avocet locks. Took Golf key. Escaped. Police think they've got a lead - it's been used in a crime and dumped but they're not sure. They left our Volvo, which is also valuable but clearly not their cup of tea. I'm in Bo'ness in Falkirk. It was wife's car. No point having anything nice. Folk will just take it. I wouldn't have another Golf on my drive if you paid me £245 a month to do so. Aidy06
This is disgusting, sorry that you had to experience this. It’s ridiculous that you should even need to worry about your car being taken but ultimately if somebody wants to take it, they will. I worry about this myself especially with a young baby. Did they smash the window and climb through or were the keys in reach?
Spinstorm
I’m sorry this happened. I keep my keys in my pocket. If someone wants to steal my car they will have to come into my room. My opinion on this is these people are all about ease of access and if the key isn’t accessible then they won’t bother. I know now some of you may suggest they will break in and come into the bedroom but looking through similar threads on car forums they don’t do that. They are opportunistic. I wouldn’t allow idiots to spoil my enjoyment of my car. I understand the concern and fear but I think we should be better than them not cowed by their stupidity. They took a knife out of our knife block. Police said that's common practice because they obviously don't need to actually carry the weapon. I am unequivocally happier that they took it without me knowing. They reached in for the key, but they wanted the car and wouldn't have let glass stop them. I feel so stupid for making sure I had strong doors etc

I feel so stupid for making sure I had strong doors etc Obviously not much help to you now, but I've been looking into security glass lately; supposedly you can get some break-in resistant stuff - the kind they use in banks. Commercial-grade stuff. It must be a terrible thing, having your home broken into. How is your other half?

I feel so stupid for making sure I had strong doors etc I feel for you and your family , I had an attempted break in which failed luckily , but I was in at the time , tried to smash my front door in , very scary. you did the right thing upgrading your locks to keep your family safe , don’t ever think differently. They exploited a weak area in your home , it’s what they do , you can’t cover every point of your security , you can only deter the scum as much as you can. If your car was taken for crime then that’s hey your Volvo got left behind , if it was a chop shop gang then your Volvo would have gone the same way. have you got gap insurance ? if so your deposit should be covered. car thefts are at epidemic proportions and until the courts hand out stiffer sentences it’s going to carry on for a while. hope your family are ok. Gavras
Sorry to hear Op about your break in, these people are utter scum. having had 3 attempts since getting the car last August, it really is an utter pain. however it's not just Golf R's and other fast cars, literally anything is at risk. The same night on the 2nd attempt at mine, they nicked about 12 different cars including a camper van. some of it is living in the West Midlands. where someone mentioned glass, it's Security laminate you need, although you can get a plastic covering to go over existing doors. The sheer number of thefts are crazy. https://en-gb.facebook.com/stolencarsmidlands/ for those that hide keys, have you young kids? A partner etc, do you want them being the ones woken up by these scum? i am very much for the just take them and leave camp.
JeS10
Another Golf R was attempted stolen about 6 miles from me apparently. House was totally ransacked but they didn't get the car. I think I'd just prefer them to take the car and let me repair my door. Also, never leave anything in the car. I left the wee one's trike, her new swing set and my wife's University bag. I get you regarding security glass. However, now the Golf is gone, I feel better. Without the Golf I don't need to make my house Fort Knox.
