kurgen34
Picked up yesterday from VW in Hereford. So 150 mile drive back to Surrey. 1st 20 mins I was thinking had I made right decision to swap my m3 comp. But 24 hours later am loving it. Did a couple of launches in wet yesterday and seriously impressed with traction. Set my individual mode with soft steering, race mode engine and pure sound. Got some nice cracks from exhaust on downshift. Impressive considering the latest EU stranglehold on exhaust noise. Early days but initial impressions are very good. kurgen34
The one I left behind. New car was 41k all in. So they did a straight swap. DickyS3, Nath_27, Darlo and 2 others
Zero71
Isn't the wide band tech in the key meant to prevent boosting and relay type attempts on the mk8? Meaning they can't just boost the signal from your key to unlock the car? The car actually needs the actual key there too now? Also, do the new VW keys goto sleep when not in use like newer Merc and BMW keys? In short, is a Faraday pouch needed nowadays on an 8R? That ADAC testing report showed the Golf 8 as one of the few cars that couldn't be relay defeated. Just curious. I never bothered with a pouch for my X3MC and have gotten really used to the convenience of keyless. Dannybear83

Have a look in the early pages of the what have you bought for your R thread for a couple of suggestions. I use a neat box off amazon. Becs has one too after my recommendation. She went large and i have the medium sized box. Links in the bought thread. I am also still getting a Ghost 2 fitted once I collect it next week/following week Booth11

If it comes to a faraday pouch or turning it off completely, I know what she will choose. JaseW

Well done on your new purchase, was that their demo car? If so I did want to have a test drive in it last Friday and was told it was sold. Glad you like it though! The habit of using when not in car is well ingrained now and second nature. Plus it looks good too! A great recommendation from you 😊 and a good buy it was! For the last several years we've been used to getting out of the GTi or Q3 and blipping the key to lock the car. Then one of us pulls on the door handle to "check" we've locked it. Well, as you'll know with keyless the door will just open again. Thus we were never sure if we'd locked the car. Much happier now it's turned off. We're still going to get those RFID key pouches though! 😉

However, the folded in wing mirrors should give assurance that it’s locked but totally understand the desire to stick with tried and test process that you’re both very comfortable with. No point in using something if there’s going to be a constant worry. And at least with the mk8 you can just easily turn keyless off once and for all, in the menus. The faraday box is good common sense.

DustyBones
OP - if you are lucky enough to have a garage - clear it out and put the car away - and even better spend about 1k and get an electric door. Then you can put it away during the day as well, as its drive up, drive in. The oldest adage of all.....Out of sight, out of mind.
