A tracker isn't going to solve all the problems, but it can be used as part of mixture of security options to try and safeguard you as much as possible. Another added bonus of a tracker, in the unlikely (but becoming more likely..) event of your car being cloned and involved in criminal activity, you can prove from your tracker activity on your own car that you were not involved.. its not revelationary but can save you a massive headache if that problem did arise!

I agree with you two, its a really smart touch. I mean I feel a little bad for passengers who can't see the screen very well, but the more driver focussed experience outweighs this guilt 😀

I have never been a passenger in my 7.5 R, so today was the first time I have actually sat in the passenger seat whilst cleaning the inside of the car. I have only just noticed that the centre console isn't straight and is angled towards to the driver. Obviously sat in the drivers seat it looks straight. That or I just got a wonky model 🤣

Its a shame to hear another story of an attempted R theft, and to OP sorry to hear about your brothers M6. I think it all comes down to a balancing act between protecting what you have worked hard to have and also protecting your loved ones by not having someone tearing through your house in the early hours. A visual deterrent will put off a significant number of opportunists as like many have already said they'll be another keyless car a few doors down the road without a steering lock (to avoid generating attention cutting through a steering wheel at 2am!). But for those that are determined to take your car having CCTV in place can be invaluable because if your car is stolen with keys from inside your house (which is always a nightmare to claim for!) whether you're in the house at the time or not, good CCTV of what happened will rule out any doubt in your insurance claim and get you back on the road again.

Insuring a new car!?
-
I mean depending on the age of the previous car you may expect a slight increase due to the value of the car being brand new and the premium to an extent may reflect this, but certaintly not an increase like that!! Just tracked back through my emails, I managed to take out my policy 3 days after my car's registration date, so probably over the weekend/Monday you will find that the systems have caught up and then you'll be able to get a proper quote and be able to see what a more reaslistic premium will be!

I had this trouble as well. Most online insurance sites wouldn't recognise the registration number so I ended up calling LV (after doing several quotes online but entering the car details manually so I had an idea of price). LV said it was common for the online systems not to recognise straight away but they could override it over the phone (not sure how this works as surely they use the same system!?). Alternatively the chap did say certain insurers can use the VIN to take out a policy on a new car. The system will catch up, hang in there! And I hope your wife enjoys her new car 😀

This is a scary story! Stay safe people.

Not a fan of stop/start. Must admit it is a smooth process though in a manual R, so no problems from that side. I am just sceptical of the long term wear on the components as on the way to work this could increase the number of engine starts to 10-15 times, rather than the initial start up. I also plan on keeping the car for a good number of years passed the 3 year warranty so am more inclined to burn more fuel than continually stop start the engine. Although could be proved completely wrong and in 5-10 years and have cars driving around with no major failings from using stop/start.. it is just too soon to know the real impact.

I've been reading through this thread and the other 18-page thread on haldex maintenance. I intend on keeping my R long term so am keen to make sure it is properly maintained, so will be looking at changing the oil and cleaning the filter myself. Its been mentioned a few times about the optional repar kit with the 2 bolts and the O rings for the pump - I was just wondering what anyones thoughts/experiences are with these, if anyone has used this kit or if you think its actually worth changing these bits or not?

I can vouch for the guys at Euro Performance too, Gareth and Lee have always been really sound! Had been taking my old Polo there for about 8 years before I got the R and now rely on stealers during the warranty period. Not too sure if Lee is still there, but I do miss the greeting from Gareth's dog in the office when you arrive 😀 Euro will definetly be my garage of choice again after warranty. Interesting what you say about VW Merthyr though, might have to keep them in mind if need anything substantial during these 3 years. Thanks for the info both!
