gtiboy
Hi all, I am about to take delivery of my new Golf R in a few weeks, and I was wondering how many of you here have had your car put on a transporter and delivered to your home? My dealer is charging me £85 for it and I thought it would be better than having to drive it 12 miles home from the dealership. To those you have done it, my question is it worth it or is there a risk for it to get damaged either the paint work or scratching the wheels as they place the car onto the transporter? Why on earth would you want them to deliver it 12 miles to you at the cost of £85? Do you not want to drive your new car! Exactly what I thought, but wondered if the 12 miles was a typo. Mind you even if it was 312 miles, if it were my car, I’d be collecting it myself. Done that before and what better way to get to know a new car (apart from detailing it), and by the time you get home you’re well acquainted. Still if it is only 12 miles, he could take the ‘long’ route home. 😁
tac1
Oops, read that as Gitboy!!! Perhaps the 12 miles is a typo?
ScotGolf
Mine is coming from Swindon and I'm going down from Edinburgh to collect it! Got a previous car on a transporter and it had a slight scratch on the roof. Nothing major but it bugged me that a brand new car was marked. What about the inspection process? A transporter driver will just want to unload it asap, get you to sign the paperwork and be off. If it were 312 miles, you have the added pressure of wanting to get home asap (so might shortcut the inspection) but when the dealer is only "down the road" you can take your time and even leave it with them (to fix) if there was something you wasn't happy with. phil4
If you were buying as car that's super sensitive to milesage (think Ferrari Enzo for example), they sure go for the transporter, and indeed I'd have them on speed dial to move it round to whatever meet, track or drive you wanted. The same applies if you buy something particularly sensitive to the elements, a morgan for example. And a final though, if you're planning on having it wrapped or paintwork treated and wanted it taken straight there. But you're buying a golf... unlike an Enzo it'll depreciate regardless of milesage, and the expect mileage is around 10K per year, even if you did 20 miles, it'd still lose value about as quickly. I'd just get on and drive it.

Are you intending to drive the car after collection! If you can’t face the thought of any stone chips, you’d better leave it in the garage permanently. 😁
