  1. Hi guys, Im new here and have come across a company called Road rage performance who have built a tuned Haldex software and obd flash tool. Has anyone had experience with such a product? I have been following these guys since they released the tune and have seen some great results, a true 50-50 power split is shown on a dyno graph on their website before and after tuning. I also saw a tuner in south Africa use the software to get his car from a 10.1 sec quarter mile to a 9.9 using only the software. This actually won them the drag event! Quite new to all this malarkey so i would like to see if anyone here has had the software installed, i noticed their home tool is on pre order at a decent discount so keen to grab it. Heres a link - https://roadrageperformance.co.uk/vag-haldex-tuning/ Thanks ✌️
  2. Hi guys, Been looking around different tuners and MRC Tuning has caught my eyes as I’ve heard a lot of good reviews. I’ve got 67 plate Golf R MK7.5 and looking to go stage 1. Has anyone recently got their car tuned there and what was the price if you don’t mind me asking? How does it drive now compared to stock? Appreciate those who reply in advance. Take care VW gang! Ray
  3. Hello all, I am stage 1 ECU/TCU tuned with R-Tech and the gearbox is acting a little strange when I hit the loud pedal. Sometimes when I boot it in 1st, it climbs through the rev range and wants to hesitate when changing into second gear and holds back for a split second, then changes gear and off it goes through the rev range like nothings wrong. Its also done this a couple of times going from 2nd to 3rd. This is usually done in Race mode and gearbox in S. Both manual and auto mode. Any one come across this type of thing before? Also when plodding around car parks or town, when i'm at around 2-10mph it likes to increase up on the revs all on its own when coasting. Only very marginal but it likes to 'hang on' (best way to describe it). Quite a difficult one to explain, but if you've encountered the same thing, you'll know exactly what im on about. All advice welcome, Cheers.
  4. Hi guys. I got an offer from my local Celtic Tuning for a stage 1 remap for 500 euros. Doesn't seem too bad, considering the 55hp increase. Anyone have any actual experiences with a Celtic Tuning remap installed? Is 355 hp too much for a 2.0L engine? Is it reliable? What do y'all think? Should I go for it, considering that the warranty has expired?
  5. Hope everyone’s having a good weekend! Im looking to invest into a JB4 soon after hearing so many good things about them, I almost went down the DTUK road but I’ve heard a lot of reports of them leaning out, whereas the JB4 controls the AFR’s and Fuelling. (ps if anyone is selling one secondhand I’ll buy it) My R is a 2016 Manual model, all stock apart from a Custom built cat back which some of you may have seen or even heard. Im planning on installing the JB4 to reap the benefits of the power gains and logging, but I’m curious to know if I install a decat downpipe will the JB4 take care of this i.e no EML or putting it into a limp mode? Sorry in advance if this has been covered, I’m new to the JB4 and if I’m honest the user interface is overwhelming with things to adjust and the forums are split with people saying the JB4 does/doesn’t sort out a decat Downpipe, regards, Dom
  6. What's the view on this company? I am admitedly a novice in the modding game, but I had never heard of them before today. Popped into my local indy VW garage (for another reason), and got talking to the owner. He was very enthusiastic about Viezu (they are an approved dealer, it turns out), so I picked up a leaflet and have just had a quick look on their website (see link below). The software-only ecu upgrade apparently produces a large increase in power and especially torque (for only £250) but what are the catches, if any? The manager said it would be simple to return the car to stock (if need be) as a copy of the current map is uploaded to Viezu before any changes are made. Not sure if that is standard practice or not. https://viezu.com/your-vehicle/cars/volkswagen/golf-mk7-5g-2013-present/petrol/20-r-305-bhp-2016-now

  8. Custom mapping (dyno) done on the Golf by Unicorn Motor Developments in Stockport. Car was running an email style map (Celtic tuning stage 1) when I got it and with the scorpion catted downpipe, TT inlet hose the car made a baseline run of 340HP / 390lb I asked Rick for following from the car: - Remove deadspot from the go pedal - More aggressive throttle mapping in all modes - NO pops and bangs - ECO mode to be running stock VW map with stock boost, just modified for the hardware changes which don't really effect running, ideal for motorway cruises as it will return around 40mpg - Race mode to be all out - Make the torque curve flatter, so the car does not feel as flat up top. The results as above, just from the custom mapping, a good 30-40HP gain after 5000rpm and gains beginning from 3500rpm. Too drive its an improvement for sure, its smoother and now the car is enjoyable to rev out, before it felt a little too manic around 3000rpm, which meant the car felt really flat beyond 4000rpm and doing a kickdown at say 70mph the car picked up but was a little flat. Now doing a kick down and it feels absolutely bonkers and just flies off down the road, the power in the top-end is night and day improvement. Also the MPG now seems greatly improved when driving it hard which is also a bonus. Below is a quick LC run, launch control is now so easy and feels so gentle on the car. I also noticed my front wheels spinning at Pod on Sunday, was told to check the Haldex filter (none service item) and it was as expected gunked up, so all cleaned and now as you can see in below video the car just hooks up with just a chirp of the wheels and no bogging. I ran a 12.2@116mph without LC at the Pod before this custom mapping. Rick the tuner, who runs a stage 1 on his car which made 359/360 on same dyno said his runs 11.7@118mph with LC at Pod. He says a none LC run should now net me around an 11.9@120mph and an LC run will be around 11.5s in the quarter mile and around 120mph terminal. It feels silly quick and I've never owned a car that was so fast for so little horsepower, its uncanny how quick this thing is. One very happy customer, such a shame the Pod has closed now until next year, was hoping to bag some 11's
  9. Good evening VWROC, Having recently taken ownership of my beloved G7R DSG I already have the urge to make this completely stock (if you can call a 300bhp Golf stock) Golf into something I can call my own. I have a couple ideas of what I'd like to start with but would love to hear from the guys and gals in the know and learn from your experiences, good and bad! Below I will list a few potential mods I have thought of and you all can add your opinions! - TripleRCompsites Lip Kit (Good looking Kit, even better looking price!) - S2T Paddle Shifter extensions (Pricey, read great things about them though. Great review and install thread by @Booth11. Let's hope this group buy request comes through!) - Noise... I'd love the car to sound a little louder and angrier? (Does that sound immature?) so far I've had a quick look at the Powervalve Downpipe and Cat that @nige bcs suggested to another user on another thread. Would this be enough? -Lows, a decent set of coilovers to drop the car just enough to make it just as functional but coupled with the TripleRComposites Lip Kit a lot more aggressive. -Try me! I love getting inspiration from looking at other like-minded individuals cars! Suggest things! Horsepower wise the end goal is to have the car running a safe and healthy 400bhp... ish. This is a goal for the life of the car but I'm more focused on the above ideas but if you have any advice on this long term goal, throw it in the comments! Many thanks in advance! Grey
  10. Main questions: - where does the 10 hp power increase comes from? Bigger turbo , other hardware changes or they just fiddled with the ECU software? - the DSG 7 speed transmission is the same they employed in the RS3? - is tuning potential changed in any way or stage1, 2 and so on will make no virtual difference between prefacelift and postfacelift?
  11. Hi All, This is my first post so be nice, please. I'm looking for Objective advice on a build for my soon to be Golf R. Please pay special attention to that word as I don't want this to turning into a pissing contest. The build I want is effectively a time attack car for the road; I'm willing to sacrifice a bit in fuel economy and ride comfort, for a more faster and sharper car. Road legal and track ready. I want this thread to Objectively to answer the following The strengths and weaknesses of the R Which parts can be replaced/upgraded to fix these issues? Is what I want possible? Ideal build, with money as no objective and my criteria above As I said objectiveness is key, I don't want any crap. If you make a point, prove it. If multiple people comment, I'll get an idea of where the car actually is in the real world and I can base my build off that. Thanks in advance
  12. Hi guys, Newbie here, I'm just looking for some advice for what needs to be kept a close eye on after tuning my R to stage 1? I'm about to put an APR stage 1 engine map and an exhaust system. What are the things that i need to keep a look out for and what are the things that needs to be maintained to keep the engine and everything else healthy? Thanks in advance guys!
  13. Well… This is certainly going to cause heated debates but i feel it needs to be shown as there aren’t really any direct comparisons and like for like tests etc.. I ran my Manual 7 R standard for around 1000miles before getting a DTUK box. I ran the box for a further 4500 miles and was pretty much faultless (bar one occasion where it didn’t like some crap petrol i had to put in before i ran out!) I now have a remap by Unicorn Motor Developments in Manchester. Before i post the dyno results there are some things id like to say. The DTUK box is great for what it is. Its a way of squeezing out more power from your car whilst protecting your warranty should any problems arise. Its very easy to fit and is a great middle ground. It improves on the standard car a fair amount. Although not in my opinion as much as some people have stated. The car was run in FWD with the plug pulled. All runs were with a Revo intake fitted. Standard Results: 293bhp + 275ft/lbs DTUK Tuning Box on Original Software V1 on Setting 3+3 321bhp + 301ft/lbs (gains of 28bhp & 26ft/lbs) Enicorn Remap 358bhp + 404ft/lbs (gains of 65bhp & 129ft/lbs!) The tune is also much safer as you can see on the AFR graph.. The car is awesome now. The torque is immense in any gear and the first two gears are now MUCH improved (as well as everything else) Thanks.
  14. Hi guys, I am fairly new here and also new on owning a VW MK7R and it is the best decision I have ever made in my life. LOL Excuse me but I am actually looking for advices to go to stage 1 tuning, looking into putting more punch to my already awesome vehicle. Any advices on what to do first or what to put in? Thanks
  15. New 7R Development from Peron Automotive. Thought this might interest a few of you. I had an opportunity to discuss some juicy info regarding GTI and 7R development last night with the MD of Peron Automotive. Just to give you some background info on Peron, they developed the Hybrid Turbo kits used in REVO's stage 3 Fiesta ST. They also have Stage 1+2+3 tunes for the Fiesta and Focus plus numerous parts including a mk6 Golf R Big turbo kit. There's some development on the way, without too many spoilers there will be a flash cable included, so you can put your car back to stock on your own, I Cant Wait! Hopefully Peron will become a sponsor in the near future to allow for group buys and such. R vs GTi PP This was done on a dual carriage way, no excessive speed was used. The GTI PP (DSG) in question has an AkrapoviÄ exhaust which according to the brochure bumps the horses up around 11HP. Which i have to say sounds absolutely beautiful on full chat, far better than any after market R exhausts I've heard in fact. My Rs bone stock (DSG). so you'd think this was roughly 300HP vs 241HP. All tests were from rolling starts from around 30mph+ and there was hardly anything in it, honestly I was shocked. As the speed increased it was noticeable that the R would increase the gap but to say the R has quite a big HP advantage there was not a lot in it! Apparently the GTi PP runs much higher HP than the 230HP quoted.. Anyway to summarise, if you want a huge step-up up in performance from the GTi a map is necessary! What are your thoughts / experiences.
