  1. Had the mountune M52 tune on my 2017 Mk7 R now for a couple of weeks, and I should have done it ages ago what a difference.. The only thing that’s taking a bit of getting used to is the DSG stage 1 map, I’m finding that in town driving it’s going between 3rd and 4th a bit too much although you can go into manual to get around that. I have noticed though that if the DSG is put into Eco it seems to stop the hunting between 3rd and 4th, probably a daft question but in doing this I’m wondering does it knock the performance back down to the standard 300ps or does it stay at 360ps and just dull the gearbox a bit.?
  2. Hi team, just purchased a new 2019 mk7,5 R and wanting to upgrade to Stage 1. Wondering if there are other R owners from Melbourne Australia who can advise of suitable tuners. Thanks Noel.
  3. Evening Folks hope your all doing okay. Decided to remove the JB1 from R and try a Revo Stage 1 remap. Car is standard except a drop in filter, turbo elbow and pipe (snow grate removed). Still running a pedal box too. The remap pulls harder through the rev range and there is more power at the top end than the jb1 gave. Its drives like factory but with a load more power. Is it worth 3 times the price of a used jb1.....quick answer for me is mmm yes. But different horses for different courses. It also came down the the garage doing the work - very experienced mech / race car builder tuner. And local too! Got me involved and made me feel right at home, so worth every penny. Discount on future work tops it off. I did consider the dsg remap but feel its not need with the 7 speed dsg box, especially as I always drive in 'manual' . No issues so far. If any slippage occurs ill get Tvs to up the clamping pressure. The in dash power gauge has been recalibrated and reads 287kw /385 bhp. Not sure how accurate that is.... I would estimate torque at 500ish. It really does pull hard in gear now.
  4. I purchased my black 7.5 R (2017 model) in Feb of this year and have had a stage 1 APR tune along with the new APR exhaust and what an improvement in performance as well as sound a little expensive but in this case you get what you pay for!
  5. Afternoon. Had my stock 6R for a couple of years and now looking at going Stage 1, every forum I've read says this will transform the car into how it should have come from the factory, which will be enough for me. At the same time I want to stick a downpipe, new exhaust, and intake on, and toying with the idea of an atmospheric dump valve. I've requested a quote from VAGtech for their Stage 1 and waiting to hear back from them, but they are a 5 hour round trip away from me so looking for somewhere closer to home that can accommodate my needs? VW said at the service before last that my clutch was sitting a bit high and a friend of mine suggested that I should get that changed if I'm going to go stage 1, but if I can get away with the stock clutch I'd rather spend that money on something else. Any advice appreciated. Thanks
  6. I've been researching into various stage 1 maps. I previously ran a tuning box on my old diesel A3, and whilst that gave a good performance boost, I'm more leaning towards a proper map this time. I'm not totally decided upon it, but thought I would get some feedback from the rest of the community. I will probably be looking into doing this in due time, once the cars factory warranty expires.... (plus time needed to save up for it) I'm not fussed really in taking it any further than a stage 1 map... I know from reading the forums that there are several reputable companies out there including REVO, APR, JF Automotive etc, but I'm also aware that sometimes the tuner simply uploads the generic supplied map to the car without any dyno checking/tweaking at all, where as at other sites they thoroughly check the car before/after and "tweak" that baseline generic map to your cars engine.. The two I'm looking at (based on my readings on various forums/websites etc) are either the REVO Stage 1 or JF Automotive Stage 1.. Both appear not to be "chasing figures" as it were, but seem to concentrate more on driveability from what reviews I've read. I've been in touch with JF Automotive and they mentioned that they check the car over fully before dynoing, then "tweak" their generic map to the cars engine.. I can't find too many reviews on here for JF Automotive maps though - does anyone have one and if so what do they think of it? My local REVO dealers are either VASMotion or MDM-Technik - what are peoples experience with them? Or if anyone has had both REVO and JFA maps - does anyone have any comparison info? I'm not in any hurry to make a decision, just looking to be as informed as possible really. PS - and before anyone suggests Rick at Unicorn development - he is the other end of the country from me so not really an option...
  7. I recently discovered the VWR OEM+ remaps and have to admit they have marketed it extremely well, I haven’t seen many people’s review on the maps as of yet so would be interesting to hear that. Interestingly enough they are stating 370ps for stage 1 and I know there are a small amount of horror stories of turbos blowing so I wonder what their stance is if this happens under there map considering what they are saying below. “RELIABILITY Through our manufacturer relationship, we are uniquely positioned to tap into a vast knowledge base and resources network. OEM+ software will never overstress the inherent hardware systems to the point of pushing turbochargers, cooling and other heat sensitive engine components beyond their intended limits” Also states you they will flash the car back to “true stock” as it was before, not sure if this is availible at any time for servicing but would be a definite plus if so!!
  8. My plan was originally to go with a proper Stage 1 remap with DSG map but having read about the issue with turbos blowing and the cost of repair I decided against it. I have been trying to look for any turbo failures from JB4’s but I cannot find anything, so I may go down this route. Can anyone shed any light on if this is the case? JB4 is let’s say safer somewhat in terms of turbo failure? (65 Plate DSG 24k mileage - 722H turbo)
  9. So in August I traded my Manual 7R in for a DSG one (65 plate with 23k on clock), I bought the DSG for many reasons but mainly due to wanting to take it to Stage 1. After doing lots of research now I am slightly hesitant Would turbo failure be less likely on a car which has more miles problem free? I understand there is an issue with balancing but would this have become apparent earlier or are turbos still just as likely to blow on high miles - This goes for after going stage 1 too? I currently have 722H £1-2k is hefty (for me) so on one hand I'm thinking leave it but on the other I know there are many people out there running tunes with no issues whatsoever! A DSG map is definitely on there cards though without a doubt. ** PS apologies I know the turbo failure topic has been beaten to death 9 billion times **
  10. So this will be my first time modifying a car therefore I am a little newb! At some point next year I will be going Stage 1 and will be adding the Turbo Technics Intake Hose along with it, would there be any issues with fitting the TT Hose on a stock setup and potentially leaving it for several months before the ECU map is done? I don’t have any other modifications in mind. Any help is greatly appreciated.
  11. Afternoon Gents Well, it's officially started. I have my 7.5R booked in with VAG Tech for Stage 1 Revo remap, Racing Line springs and H&R antiroll bars to stiffen it up. Just a little bit of a tweak for now... I'll give it a few months before stage 2 starts. How much work did you guys do for Stage 2? I'm guessing it'll take an upgraded air intake, exhaust manifold and brakes along with the remap. Any suggestions on what else should be upgraded? Either out of necessity or a "it was simply better with..." Ta!
  12. We've updated the website to give a little more info on our Golf 7 Software. There is still much to do info wise but it's a start! https://www.unicornmotordevelopments.com/vw-golf-mk7-software-prices.html Rick
  13. Was wondering if anyone on here has had a stage 1 map done by United motorsport? If so, how is it? What power did you get. Cheers
  14. Hi guys, No doubt this has been asked a lot but wanted some advice from owners who have remapped their R's and are on PCP finance. Is there any knock on effect to the PCP finance agreement? I've heard all matter of stories about VW demanding all outstanding payments or seizing the vehicle?! Any truth to these?! I suspect the ECU warranty will be void and servicing may be tricky if VW's system flags up the remap but is there any way of detecting the modification if the ECU is flashed back to stock? Any suggestions or help would be appreciated, wealth of knowledge out there I'm sure! Looking at APR Stage 1 (High output) with the DSG upgrade.
  15. Hi guys, Newbie here, I'm just looking for some advice for what needs to be kept a close eye on after tuning my R to stage 1? I'm about to put an APR stage 1 engine map and an exhaust system. What are the things that i need to keep a look out for and what are the things that needs to be maintained to keep the engine and everything else healthy? Thanks in advance guys!
