Hi all,

Looking for a bit of advice and hoping some of you have driven a couple of these so you can give me a comparison.

Im starting to get bored of the R. It really is the perfect all rounder but it's just too easy to drive fast. I don't know whether to stick with the R and hopefully grow out of the phase or go for either a E92 M3 or 235I.

Help me out, I need some advice!

If its any help my mate had a 235i for about a month, got really bored of it and bought a e92 M3 manual and he has now had it over 8 months (he never keeps anything for long but the m3 seems to keep him very alive). I have drove it and it does feel a lot more fun than the golf but for me the golf serves a better purpose for my hobbies and a fantastic all round car.

That does help thanks for that mate. The R is an awesome car. I love the way it looks and the way it drives just Too easy to drive quick. I feel like I need something different that's more exhilarating to drive.

Your welcome, The only car I would swap the golf for would be a C63 Estate. its got the space for my needs and sounds amazing on stock exhaust, just running the thing is what puts me off. Though someday I will own one.

What ever car you drive you'll get bored of it - ☺️ - I test drove an M3 BMW V8 natuarlly aspirated - E92 [???] - But I didn't buy it - I've got 6 R and had this since 2010 now got 42,000 miles on the clock.  There are times when "boredom" can kick in but that's true of any car.  Be happy with what you've got !!!! - [not preaching] - Rent a car that is awful like something with 50 horse power - you'll love the R for ever without boredom !!! - ☺️

You're not wrong there. I am giving it another two months to win me back and then I'll think things through again. I just need to keep driving it like it's the first day I got it.

Also, what did you think of the E92?!

Well E92 with the V8 natural - It seemed comfortable but to get the best out of it you'd need open track to exploit the power - Awesome looking M3 no doubt about that!!! - I was looking at buying one but I'm happy with the 6R and may add another GTI 40 as it's enough power for me on regular roads and can avoid paying out huge amounts.

Great car though and tempting - ☺️

Same goes for the Merc SLK 55 AMG - Great engine - Porsche Boxter / Cayman - Merc A45 AMG - RS3 / saloon - Just thundersome amounts of power that maybe are just not needed on the road - Great for bragging rights etc.....

I have heard they do need a good kick to get the most out of them as they don't have much low down torque being NA.

Yes you need to rev the engine which encourages spirited driving but the engine note doesn't get into the cockpit of the car on the E92 in the same way as it does in the Z4M / M3 before E92

The BMW 335i was a 3 litre turbo charged engine with more low down torque than the E92 M3 but didn't have the M3 looks

Nothing wrong with needing a bit of encouragement 😏

Yes the 335I has a strong engine and tunes really well just doesn't have the stunning looks of the M3 like you said.
