No but what they can use against a gogw is not getting the 40k service done there. Usually a major service and one that earns them some decent profit. Goodwill is exactly that. They do it for customers who buy cars, extras, parts, services etc. All the things that make them money, and for customers who are likely to do the same thing all over again. I’m not suggesting right or wrong either way, but I wouldn’t count on goodwill to rectify the situation. SpursMadDave
Blobby
So two fingers two anyone who said it’s because it’s a “manual” or poor driver. report says it went at 3000rpm and it’s the rod that snapped to the big end bearing and no signs of no oil or burning unfortunately it’s up to at least £10k so far in repairs and they have only took the sump off or what’s left of it anyway. As it’s gone threw the radiator wiring loom and who no’s where else.
thanksabunch
But WHY? Is the important question! numerous people pushing 500bhp through these engines with stock internals! Manufacturing fook up from factory I'd say
brad7.5REST
No I fully appreciate your questions, car is currently on there ramps(under investigation) very nervous to hear the outcome. its a fully qualified garage an I have know the mechanic 10 years who only uses parts bought from vw. its no cheaper to go there just more convenient, the oil was blacker than I would of expected but thin so I was confident it had been changed the comment about quantity is unknown but too much would of resorted to a smoky engine/smoke out of the tailpipes or too little the low oil light would of come on. I had a thought that if when they plugged it in to cancel the "oil change required" they also deleted the low oil warning or is this not possible? How long after the oil change did the engine go? If the oil was black after a few hundred miles, I'd be worried.Oil turns black due to contamination, high heat cycles of additives added. If you know the mechanic and he's a one man show then I suppose you have a reason to trust him.I ran my own workshop for a short while and quickly realised that it you don't watch everything that your mechanics do, they can easily forget something or not be 100% honest about what they have done. And to run a mechanical workshop it's impossible to monitor everything. The only reason I'm mentioning this is because of the dark oil (if it was changed recently)No garage wants to admit they made or contributed to a £10000 blunder... Even if they have insurance to cover the mistakes made in workshop.Good luck once againSent from my Lenovo YT-X703L using Tapatalk Jon R306
GrantW
That oil looks way too black to have been recently changed.Sent from my SM-G955F using Tapatalk
Mike R
Wow thats some damage,i have to agree with others that the oil all over the floor does look very black to be recently changed, what does the oil filter look like? has the garage inspected that yet? £10k!! wow...if its not going to be done under warranty then id personally be looking for a secondhand engine. Portia12
Can you pull the motor out of an R without taking out the gearbox ?... Or does it all have to be disconnected and come out as a unit ? OP - sorry to see this. It is starting to sound like oil starvation, bearings ran dry, one one big end was the first to let go. I'm a big fan of oil testing - you get a report of what stuff is in suspension in the oil. If there's a sample to be recovered from a corner of the sump, or the oil filter housing, sending it away for analysis would show if there was bearing coating in the oil or not. That would confirm oil starvation or unrelated catastrophic failure. I use the oillab.co.uk. A £30 bronze is all you need here. Mods - I have not related to oillab, just a satisfied customer. davetherave
Look up consumer law, they should fix if warranty has expired. I haven't bothered reading the full thread, so do not know if they are. But cooperate companies should fix things like this under consumer law, if warranty has expired or recently expired. Just say you want it repaired under consumer law, and most if the time they will do it.
thanksabunch
Very sorry state of affairs These are tough little engines and I maintain my earlier thoughts that its either a manufacturing defect internally from factory or the car has had a hard life such as previously ran dry of oil and or lots of thrashing from stone cold! Stock R engines don't just explode without underlying problems or previous abuse
BlackGolfR
Hello mate, I’m gutted to hear that this has happened to you. I had my engine go wrong last month aswell and it turned out to be the engine starved of oil from previous owner that damaged crankshaft and piston. As Jon-Paul has said if you don’t have any luck look at Walkers of Rochdale they carried out a engine replacement on my R and it’s back to business with it. Don’t give up with VW they wouldn’t help me as I had an oil service elsewhere but if they say no they won’t help you can always go to the Ombudsman. Good luck mate PM if you need any advice👍🏼
Marcus66
Hi I have a golf r 2017 mk7.5 dsg which has had the same problem ? Driving normal the engine decided to go bang! No warning light came up on the computerised dash either ? Dumped all the oil and coolent on the road ? Took it to Vw on the back of a recovery truck where Leicester Vw had booked it in to do a diagnostic check a week later I might add and found that the con rod had malfunctioned and punctured to holes in my engine block whilst exiting the engine ! lucky for me “hopefully “the car was out of warrenty with Vw but I had personal warrenty when I purchased the car which hopefully will cover this ? Vw haven't offered any good will gesture at this point but just waiting on warrenty to go through claim . it’s been 3weeks since the engine going bang and was wondering if this is common thing as my golf had only done 36k and was fully serviced by them and was stock ? this shouldn’t happen in a performance engine ? Ignition1
I agree @Marcus66 - shouldn't happen when it's stock and serviced at VW. Just an unfortunate occurrence, but unfortunate or not...it shouldn't happen regardless. Though "stock" is tricky to guarantee when you buy it 2nd hand - even approved used I should add because previous owners can take steps to 'hide' any ECU maps it may have had - or have you had the car since new? This thread brings back memories! Reminds me - should check my oil level 😂 What happened in the end @Blobby ?
