Only just past 6k miles now and car will be three in Dec.

Wow. Super low miles.  It’ll still be like brand new?   Any problems encountered with the infrequent exercise?  Do you use a Battery charger/maintainer? I’m just curious, and thought mine was very low - have yet to reach 5k, reg’d March 19.

Hope you’re having a smile for every mile.  Mine always does it for me😀

Slight digression (sorry) but just thinking.. there's going to be a lot of very good (condition), very low mileage second hand cars coming onto the market over the next 6 months as 3 yr PCP and lease deals expire. Like me, quite a few friends are expecting to only do 5-6k miles in the whole of 2020. Home working related (mostly), but also cancelled holidays (so no long runs to airports etc) and very few trips to see far away relatives. Whether this translates into lots of bargains or second hand prices held high due to the low mileages remains to be seen. As always, supply and demand will rule.

“Every Cloud“ as they say.....it might help preserve the Mk7.5 Rs for even longer.   The 7 and 7.5 R will surely remain very sought after whichever way the Mk8 R ends up being received.   No not, Classic, collectible...just a Good Thing.
I hope to keep mine for a good while.

I have put quite a few pictures of it in the detailing section for you to judge whether it is like brand new, I think it is. No problems with infrequent use so far and I do not use a charger/maintainer. They are nice cars and I do enjoy the thrill it can give, short of a super car I don't think there is another car I would have. Might of preferred it with the DSG perhaps.

It looks pretty immaculate to me Daniel.  More than likely better than brand new.😀👍

Can't be that thrilling if you have only done 6k miles in 3 years...

Fit some coilovers

If I did not spec the dcc that may have been an option. Prefer to leave the car as standard really, the GY E F1 SS should make a bit of a difference when I eventually get round to replacing tyres (will be due to age rather than wear at this rate, I think 5 years is the limit for tyres).

Mine are due for a replacement soon. With 18" Cadiz I think it's either Goodyear Assy 3 (currently set) or Michelin PS4.

I'm thinking going PS4 this time so I can see the difference. I liked the Assy 3 and they were better than Potenzas for sure. The R didn't feel like it was "skipping" and understeering when going fast on a tight corner (e.g. a roundabout) with the Assy. However tyre roar was the same, if not worse.

Changing tyres to the MPS4S will help a bit, but you should really get a 4 wheel alignment done if you haven't already - make sure it's a reputable place, preferably with the hunter alignment kit. Fit a rear ARB too.

You can change the way the steering feels with vcds or OBD11 - it firms up the steering and takes away that very light feel.

Have OBD11 you hot the hack for this?

Hate how light the steering feels 🤣

I've got vcds, so only know this method;

  1. Select Steering Assist 44
  2. STG Access Permission -> Function 16
  3. Enter Access code 17580
  4. Select Adaptation -> function 10
  5. Select the steering assistance characteristic: Comfort: Steering is smooth / comfortable, Automatic: default value / steering depending of the driving profile or Dynamic: steering is taut / sporty
  6. value can be adapted accordingly

Does this just keep the stiffness as a default instead of me selecting the mode at the gear stick? All the modes are to light for my liking, like others that had the Evo I'm not impressed with the steering feel under power 🤣🤣🤣

Thanks by the way 😁

Yes it does - way too light for me too.

The R comes out of the factory with lifeless steering (ironic bearing mind it shares the same rack as the GTI, which is a joy in that car).

Kind of annoying that Mr VW decided the R would be better with no steering feel, when it’s less powerful brother is full of life!

Its also kind of annoying that to make the steering have more feel, owners like you and I have to try and improve it!

Putting the steering into Race just makes it heavier, instead of giving the steering feel which is what needed.

It’s yet another reason why I’m unhappy with my R. I just think the whole car is boring, not just the steering.
