  1. Hello guys and girls I purchased my mk7.5 r last October and basically the dealership who I bought it off told me nothing about the car, I found 2 months after purchasing it a GSB valve connected to my turbo. It also pops and bangs in every driving mode so I would love to talk to the past owner and see what else they have done to it. If anybody could help me I’d appreciate it. REG LO18 SFZ. Lapiz blue. 😃 thanks Keenen.
  2. Hello, Looking at replacing my pads/discs on 2018 mk7.5 Golf R. VW themselves quoted ridiculous amount of money to just replace front pads/rear discs only but thought it would make sense to replace all at same time? Was looking at these: https://www.powerbrakes.co.uk/products/stage-1-front-rear-brake-package-for-volkswagen-golf-mk7-mk7-5-r?variant=47597743014218 Is there any major differences between the different pad options? Pagid vs Brembo vs feredo? Thanks!
  3. Hi guys. Looking for recommendations on bigger calipers for the Golf R. Not for track at all or even the best possible performance. Purely the best looking for size against price? For example either new or used that fits directly on to a standard set up (with minimal aditional work) I know the TTRS are well used but the size isnt as impressive. Can something be fitted without requiring a whole brake kit upgrade? Looks & Cost are the priority. I currently run EBC Yellowstuff pads and MTEC C-Hook Discs all around. Cheers for any help 👍
  4. Hi all, New to the forum! Apologies if this has been placed into the wrong section. Appreciate there's already some posts about this topic but seeing some conflicting info online. I've just purchased a 2018 Golf R (Registered in June 2018). Reg checks online state it's the TSI 310 model. (Not sure how accurate my sources are though as to whether all 2018 are just listed as 310? - Does anyone have any accurate sources?) I've read some conflicting info that GPF was released in 2019 onwards, but also seeing people suggest GPF cars were delivered from June 18 onwards so some 2018 cars may have it? Would I be correct in saying that since it's the 310 model, it doesn't have it? I don't have the car yet as the dealer is getting a ghost immobiliser and some other bits fitted before I get the car so can't check it until I do. Thanks
  5. hi can someone help me with a problem i am having on my r (revo stage 1). its a 2015 bought it about 6 months ago and long story short bought a really fast GTI instead of an R. car suffers from severe traction loss like if i am in normal drive and give it more then 30% throttle instant front wheel spin and hopping. doing launch control just results in a lot of wheel hop or just a front wheel burnout. best way to describe the car is its basically like driving a Cupra 300. Having read up on this i changed my haldex pump and oil and i done the pump learn using vcds. still no joy maybe a tiny bit better but no where near what it should be. I dont know what to replace next as there is many things i have read about on the forums from the culprit being the entire rear unit to just a simple software update or a newer haldex controller. no codes are being thrown as well. if anyone had a similar situation to me and resolved it please tell me as i am just tired of driving around in a stupid quick car and not being able to use it properly. And i really dont want to bring it to my Volkswagen dealership as i have had really bad experiences with them in the past. p.s when i changed the haldex oil there was quite a large amount of sludge and debris in it and not that much oil came out no where near the 850 ml mark. guessing this was never changed in the car for quite some time.
  6. Hi everyone, apologies if this isn't the right place -but It would be good to get a second opinion as I might be paranoid. I've seen a 2019 R for sale at VW dealer in Taunton, it has 19K miles and is generally very nice condition. It stood out as it's quite well equipped with leather seats, keyless entry, 19" black Pretorias. One of the wheels was bent (which i'm learning is pretty common) so I didn't see much point test driving it on a space saver. So the first thing that jumped out was the car has had 3 owners, when I dug a bit deeper the dealer informed me that it had been an ex demonstrator at dealership 00773 (which I assume is a VW code). It's then had two owners, I don't have the detail of how long each one had it etc as of yet. This has put me off a bit as the natural assumption is that it's it hasn't be cared for as you would want, or ragged to death. I had an appointment to see it this morning, unfortunately I couldn't make it. When I called up to re-arrange the salesman offered to bring it down to Bristol for me to look at...I might just be paranoid but that strikes me as they can't wait to sell it! The car comes with the 2 year unlimited mileage warranty etc - but i'd be interested what other peoples thoughts. Not sure if it's ok to post the ad link here, so i'll hold off. Thanks
  7. Hello, please advise if it is possible to source akrapovic exhaust for my golf r mk7.5. I am struggling to find reliable information. thanks. zain
  8. What power you putting out and what have you had done so far? Also wether or not you’ll be doing anything else anytime soon, Remember to post pics of bhp figures and your car 💪
  9. Hi Guys, Looking for some guidance... I have a 2015 golf R DSG with 60K miles. I had the Haldex serviced by VW in December last year and no problems reported. I then had a stage 1 map done in Jan and immediately noticed loads of front wheel spin. This was possibly happening before but probably hadn't driven it hard for a while so not noticed. I popped back to the garage that had done the stage one and they hooked it up to their diagnostics and diagnosed Haldex pump failure, this was replaced and they said all was good, but the wheel spin still remained. with ESC on in first and second if I floor it the ESC Light just goes mad and the car bogs down in the first 2 gears. in ESC sport mode the front wheels just spin, 1st is unusable and 2nd is not much better! I've since read just about every post on the internet but still have questions and cant really find a post that covers the whole drive train and also the relationship between the various other systems such as ESC & ESC sport, ABS etc. I appreciate there has to be a limit to physical grip but reading loads of posts, sounds like I should be able to get the power down without all this wheel spin even with the stage 1! Q. I understand the Haldex system and how it transfers up to 50% torque to the rear. my question is about the bit before that, there must be some sort of from diff that splits the power between the front and rear drive shafts, are the front and rear drive shafts always spinning at the same speed? lets assume the Haldex doesn't exist and it's a solid drive shaft to the rear diff would my front and rear wheels be turning at the same speed in a straight line or say for instance my front wheels are on ice and my back wheels where on dry tarmac would my front wheels just spin or are the drive shafts fixed so they must turn at the same speed so my gripping back wheels would just push me forward? you can probable tell from this I'm not mechanical! I'm sure this is a stupid question but from a non mechanical guy I'm thinking it's possible for the inner and out wheels on the same axel to spin at different speeds when cornering so I'm applying that logic and thinking it may be possible for front and rear wheels to spin at different speeds. The other half of my brain is shouting well that would defeat the point of 4 wheel drive, but I'm asking it anyway please don't be too patronising... I think what I'm trying to get at is if the front and rear axles must spin at the same speed then it would be impossible to spin the front wheels and not the back at the same time so in my case points back to the Haldex system still not functioning correctly.
  10. Hi, I have ordered Lapiz blue Mk8R PP and want to know which key design is standard for R. I saw and IG story of Automann amd seen realy nice looking key (pic attached) but on some reviews cars have key like normal mk8 Any info about this, Thanks
  11. Hi, I'd be keen for your thoughts. I have a Golf R Mk7.5 estate GPF (sleeper) that currently has a Forge inlet, K&N filter, uprated NGK spark plugs / coils and DIY opened inlets on the grille along with a custom DSG and TSU tune from DMS Automotive. Stock was 309 BHP and 450 Nm of Torque at the flywheel. After tune, I'm now getting 378 BHP and 550 Nm of Torque at the flywheel. Next step in April is the replace anti roll bars and shocks with H&R roll bars and coil overs, SuperPro bushes, Wagner Intercooler, BCS down pipe with sports cat and update the ECU tune. Whilst I'm doing all this and with the expected power and torque increases, I've decided to upgrade the front brakes. I've already got braided lines and Ferodo pads and VBT J hooked disks. Now I want to go for a Big Brake Kit and was looking at the 362mm two piece floating rotors and cannot decide if I go with 4-pot Brembos for Aston Martin or go for 380mm two piece floating rotors with 6pot calipers from AP racing. The car will be running the 18" Cadiz for now with spacers (keeping to the sleeper theme) and will not be tracked. However, it is driven quite hard or very hard most of the time. Any thoughts and logic between 4pot and 6pot would be greatly appreciated. Cheers AD
  12. Hi all, im looking at modifying my exhaust and I would like to get a decat (want it very loud) but I keep hearing I won’t pass my MOT is there lots of garages which will pass it if I look in the right places? or will I struggle getting it through it’s MOT? Thanks in advance 😊
  13. Hello, I have recently taken delivery of my new Golf R, in Lapiz Blue - love the car, even tops my previous S4's, however I am looking for some guidance on tyre pressures. I am on Potenza S001 - 225 40 R18 (92Y) 's and the pillar plate shows a recommended pressure of 41 psi which seems high. Can anyone provide some thoughts on the optimal pressure ? Thanks.
  14. Hi don’t know if I’m being stupid I have a golf r mk7.5 I want new wheels can I run 19inch by 10inch wide
  15. Hi Guys, Looking to get some black coated discs from MTEC but they cant confirm when they have stock of this coating (but I cannot wait long). I cant find other discs with coating for the same cost. £270 for c-hook front and rear. Has anybody has any success just painting the non coated disc? Ive heard Hammerite could work, but if it wont last long then not very good. Any help is great Cheers

  17. Hello VW community, I am the proud new owner of a 2019 VW Golf R, 6 Speed Manual in Atlanta, Georgia. Having been an Audi customer the past 18years (S3, RS3), I needed something new and an R with a manual gearbox seemed like the right choice for a fun daily and a car that would have an ocean of aftermarket options. After having spent a ridiculous amount of time researching I am in need of help as I can not find the information I need. 1) VW North America clearly states that my car has 288hp. Not on a single site (Milltek, AWE, APR etc) have I seen this model mentioned. The car has been out for almost 2 years - what am I missing? https://www.vw.com/models/golf-r/section/overview/ I am seeing 300hp and 310hp everywhere which are the Euro models. This has made it very difficult in finding options to enhance my Golf 2) I can not find any info whether this car has OPF/GPF or not. Does anyone know whether the US cars have been exempt from that non sense? 3) My research shows that exhaust upgrades do not mess with warranty. Can someone confirm this? 4) is this an international site? I mostly see Brits so wanted to confirm :) Thanks for your help. I have attached a pic! She is in dire need of an exhaust and exterior carbon options
  18. hi all, for some years now I've had a weird intermittent grinding sound I've noticed coming from maybe gearbox or engine? when you have it in drive stationary then put it in sport it gets more noticeable/louder you can here it from in the car and outside. the problem is intermittent and happens every so often was quiet for a few months now noticed it's back. ive been back and forth with dealership a few times I've warned them about it a year after I bought it in 2017 went for a drive with tech and he said can't hear it that much, went back months later and luckily got them to hear it they had it for the day and checked it and said when they serviced they can't hear it now which was true for some time but as I said its back! any ideas on what it could be or if any1 else has had a similar issue???
  19. Hello everybody. I’m new to the site. I’ve had my MK7 Golf R Estate since April 2019. I had a MK6 GTD before that. Let’s see everyone’s motors! Cheers Ellis
  20. Lads. Need help with the alloys of my new Golf R. Currently with silver Pretoria’s but maybe rather have them black? Side mirrors currently silver? Keep it change? thanks
  21. Developed this noise after getting an apr Downpipe and custom miltec exhaust fitted. Made it both on stage 1 and stage 2+ tune. Had people tell me it’s just the wastegate but figured I’d ask other R owners. Thoughts?
  22. Hi everyone, i have a very strange knocking noise coming from the front of my car when i am lighly feathering the accelerator (around 1500 revs) and it also happens when the car is slowing down from a low speed. I have taken it to VW this morning for a general health check in which they said they can hear the noise but can't see what it would be and that it requires further inspection. The car is a 2016 Mk7 R with 19000 miles on it so not enough for long term wear and tear. I have a video of the noise but i cannot attach it to the post so if anyone would like to hear the noise if it would help them determine what it is i can email it or send it in some other way to you directly... Any help would be grately appreciated!
  23. Hi guys, New to the forum and I have had my (totaly stock) Golf R for just under a month. Looking at making my first mods. I’m adding a Racingline Filter to the stock filter box and having a Res deleted. I have a Manual so I’m unsure as to what difference it will make to the sound? My question is, will I see a noticeable difference in the sound of the car? Also will it add a few more pops and bangs? I know the DSG it makes a big difference but not sure what the difference on a manual will be. Thanks.
  24. Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone on here would be able to give some advice regarding the maintenance and or repairability of a mk7 golf leather steering wheel. I am the current owner of a mk7 golf r and my steering wheel is beginning to show marks and fade and I'm really struggling to bare with them. Hence the reason for starting this topic. I am aware of leather cleaning kits but it would be nice to get other peoples experiences before going ahead with any purchases. Any help or advice is much appreciated!!
  25. Hi everyone, have my mk7r a wet week and I’m getting pretty serious static shocks of the body work. Anyone have this problem? Mainly happens after I’ve taken it a drive. Never had this happen on my mk6GTD or any previous cars. Anything take this away?
