VW Boot Badge Drain Tube

Folks, as the summer rains continue, it’s worth a quick check of the boot badge drain tube. I was surprised to see the end of mine had perished and almost detached completely. This is going to let water get inside the boot lid & needs a replacement (sub £6). I’m told this is a common problem, but extended warranty won’t cover it, at least in my case when I enquired. Overjoyed to learn that the boot lock/latch needs to come off to attach the new tube....

Good tip - what year is your car out of interest ?

Only the plastic interior trim around the inside of the hatch needs to be removed. 

I did mine myself on a 2014 car.

Took the opportunity to soundproof that area of the hatch while i had all the trim off.

This has happened to the drain on my r, going in for service on sat and still under warranty so hopefully they will sort it.

Thanks for the heads up Lou.  Mines a ‘65 plate and I’ve just checked it and the grommet has detached completely.  Let’s hope it wasn’t ages ago!  
 

 

I’ve fashioned a very temporary repair using the cut off end of syringe barrel!  Probably useless but will get a new tube fixed ASAP.

Refitting is just a reversal of the removal.

You will see the pieces interlock so you need to do things in the right sequence.
