MRC Tuning

It's not needed especially on a 7.5 but on a 7 it does make a big difference at Stage 1 or even on a stock car

Nice one mate. Stage 1 is probably all I need and if I go stage 2 I’ll get DSG tune done.

Not mandatory for a DQ381 (7 sped) DSG, but a good TCU tune does make the car much nicer to drive in D (if you always drive in Manual mode not so much an advantage unless you use LC a bit)

Yes definitely. It’s just I wasn’t expecting £1.5k for stage 1 and DSG tune. I was expecting cheaper so may just go for stage 1. Have you heard much about TDI Tuning box?

It's something you can always get done if you feel the driving experience could be improved

Definitely mate. Have you heard Tdi Tuning before and know if anyone has one?

That does seem expensive, you could get a turbo elbow/pipe and JB4 for around £600

Is that in Chelmsford? I'm sure they did my Jag if they are. I think they just produce tuning boxes, I would recommend a JB4 over any other plug in devices

And that’s why I was asking if anyone had it done recently. I uploaded the quote MRC sent me above in this post.
Kinda mad but just heard so many good things about MRC.

Yeah mate, in Chelmsford. I think the good thing about tuning box is it’s untraceable once taken off. My cars still on lease and still unsure if I want to keep it. Kinda do and don’t at the same time haha

Yes me too, I very nearly went to MRC myself, does seem a tad expensive for a stage 1 package but then there is an r600 and intake/pipe included at around £600.

Intake/pipes are available much cheaper and easily fitted yourself, intake isn't required but depends on your own tastes... R600 for £300+ will not do much on a stage 1 car

Have you done anything to your car?

Yeah bought it 2nd hand, fitted elbow/pipe and Remus exhaust. Fitted my JB4 but found out it was already stage 1 so then decided to go stage 2. Fitted a downpipe and intake (intake later came off as didn't like the noise) then went stage 2 with a different tuner (Unicorn) also got a TVS TCU tune done inbetween stages 1 & 2

Yeah I get that but check out the JB4 it's a little more pricey but it's more that just a plug in device it actually connect to the ecu via OBD and reads data on the go

Hey Rayy, just to add..

You probably knew this already but It's not compulsory to take the hardware with an APR or MRC tune. Tuners understandably recommend for a couple of reasons, a. to make the most out of their tunes and b, maybe to make a little extra£ on the upsell - at the end of the day it's the consumers choice which options to take.

Good luck in whichever route you go.

J.

Just had Rick at Unicorn carry out a stage 1 and TCU software On my 7.5 and couldn’t be happier, cost was £850.  I drove from Cambridge, trust me the drive home is perfect for getting to know the car and probably good for the adaptations?

Rick really does know his stuff and gives time to explain things. I was a little concerned about the large torque increase as the car is a daily driver and I wanted to keep it safe, Rick  totally reassured me that everything was well within limits and that the car was actually running slightly lower boost than average stage 1 due to how strong my engine was in standard form. No other modifications have been done to the car.

Figures speak for themselves!
