VW may well say 40000 miles. They also approve of Long Life servicing for an R, which could see oil not being changed for 18k miles or more..... Who would supply the parts for. Gearbox or engine repair? Just saying’ like.... For me an R needs Oil annually. Service annually. An over serviced car isn’t going to do harm, certainly won’t make it harder to sell, or enjoy meantime. DSG service about £200. Haldex service £125 or thereabouts.🤔4 points

Hi buddy. Yeah a million times better. The fatigue is what got to me the most. Absolutely no energy to even stand up but only lasted a few days. Headache was constant but not so bad. Got the kids tested (even though I stayed in bedroom with door shut) and they both came back negative thank god. Back at work since 28th. booked the dyno for when the stage 2 is done so will be interesting to see the end results!3 points -

If only keeping a year the depreciation on a 2019 car will be much less than the depreciation on a mk8 for the same period. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk3 points -

You could get the 2019 R and keep it for the year, and then look to pick up a used or nearly new 8R in 12-18 months time, which should have taken some of the initial depreciation hit and should be less than ordering brand new one.2 points -

My car is booked back in with GotBoost in bridgend on the 12th jan (earliest day me and the wife are off together so I can leave the car with them to do the work). will update with results after it. As above, given the age I would definitely get the DSG serviced even though “officially” you’ve not reached the stipulated mileage yet - BTW, that is some low annual mileage !! I did mine at 3 years old / 20k miles on my drive, purely for peace of mind. Expect to pay around £200 for the DSG service. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points -

For a good answer to this, I would suggest approaching a very reputable company like Lepsons for a fact based answer. I work offshore and we do a lot of alloy fabrication and welding, it can be repaired multiple times. BUT is very application dependent, as the material properties can change depending on how the repair has been done. If in doubt replace the wheel with either one of known history, or a new one. But do bear in mind properly done repairs are more than acceptable. But this means the repair is done by a fully qualified skilled welder/fabricator, not yer buddy who plays around with a MIG welder at the weekends in his garage. cheers2 points -
New Irish R owner here, recognise plenty of usernames from other fora though. Spec on my car is: 2015 R Limestone Grey Manual 19" Pretoria with Continental Sport Contact 6's Discover Pro Navigation with Voice activation. Just turned over 60k miles. Loving it so far, the car is a UK import and it had one owner before me based in Horsham, West Sussex and is in fantastic condition. Collected it a week before Christmas, it's a big step up from anything I've had before. It passed it's NCT (Irish MOT) with no advisories and the tester remarked how clean it is. Hard to believe its now 5 years old. Some plans for new year, get it to Daltons (VAG specialist and Revo agents) for a haldex service and check over, will need rear tyres and brake pads in the not too distant future too. Other than that it's 100%. Averaging around 550kms per tank so far and up to 37mpg on my commute so I really can't complain. Previous cars include MK7 GTD, MK7 Fiesta ST, B8 A4 TFSi and MK5 GTi. I purchased the 19” pret reps beginning of the year, great service from Liam. Not sure if the 18’s are any different, but the 19’s come in two different sizes (8 / 8.5).....depends which supplier CM get the wheels from. Depending what size, the centre size varies. A good suggestion here - plus being realistic, by the time you order and its delivered, it could well be June/July since VW don't seem to turn out cars too fast. If the 19 plate rocks your boat, you run that around for a year, by then the 8 is a year in so main bugs out of the new touches interior set up etc. The you decide if the 8 is what you want etc... Plus a 19 plate R is not a bad place to be in the meantime. And with the continued lockdowns, the miles on the 19 are not going to be racking up much. So depreciation may be a little less as low milage cars are usually an easy sell if well specced and have some factory warranty left.1 point -
Excellent! They’re really great paddles aren’t they. Glad you’re happy with them, and, that you’ve covered the cost with the sale of your Racingline ones. Bonus! I did similar, as sold my old S2Ts last Saturday to another forum member (through classifieds) and so that off-set the majority of cost of the new ones, albeit belatedly.1 point

Finally got round to fitting mine yesterday and really happy with them. Didn’t need the ‘tape mod’ as there was virtually no play or click clack. Managed to sell my old Racingline paddles yesterday too, which covered the cost of the new illuminated ones. Result!1 point

Rear passenger side footwell had about 10mm of water in it, went in this morning for 3 year service, 40000miles, phoned back saying the door card clips also are seals and they have given up and letting water in, on the service report they were going to charge £147 but have said it’s covered under warranty1 point

As per above DP and either pikey intake or aftermarket intake with inlet pipe. I’d recommend unicorn for tuning, BCS for the DP and TT inlet as it’s one piece and proven gains. Then you’re set for around 390hp and 400lbs. if you’re Manual then clearly need upgraded clutch or DSG recommend dsg tune. Stage 2 is fantastic for daily driven car, the low end torque is fantastic and then pulls all way to red line.1 point

Wait till you can drive a Mk8 in the spec you’d buy it in, or close. There are some reviews that are very positive about the Mk8 (see Mk8 vids) Some press comments too suggest raising the bar all round, removing understeer, great brakes, playful handling, massive all round abilities etc These cars have the Performance Pack with Drift and Nurburgring facilities, and Akrapovic exhaust. These options alone cost an extra £5k or so. You could Easily spend upwards of £45k After a big discount to get a car with the options fitted to reviewed cars. A significant sum tied up in a car that will shed £ in depreciation. But you know your finances and what’s manageable, whichever way you are funding the car. A 19 plate car will be yours for well under £30k with a shedload of kit. So maybe more than £15k more for the new car. I have a 19 plate and will keep for maybe 5 years. Might upgrade, might not. It sounds like the Mk8 moves the R on dynamically at least, but you need to decide this for yourself, then secure a super deal. Good luck. Let’s know where you end up.1 point -

My 2016 plate as done 17,000 miles I've been told by vw it is one of the only service not age related just 40,000 miles, I have had my haladex oil changed twice with filter cleaned both times by my self, well worth doing, but won't be rushing to get my dsg done not because vw said its OK don't trust anything they say more to do with knowledge of gear boxes and oils, which is my job, i will probably do mine my self earlier at 30,000. thats just my thoughts carnt do no harm changing it earlier if you can trust vw to do it right [emoji3] Sent from my SM-G986B using Tapatalk1 point -

For the first few months of driving my R with DCC (and 19” Prets), I was convinced it wasn’t working as I really couldn’t feel any difference between the drive modes, and having test driven another (older) R with DCC, where I most definitely noticed the difference between Comfort and Race, this just convinced me even more that my DCC wasn’t working. I took it into the dealership for them to investigate. They monitored each corner of the car whilst driving and changing modes and confirmed that the DCC WAS working as it should be, which just confused me (they could see the current draw at damper adjusters were 0.3a in Comfort mode vs 0.7a in Race mode). The lead tech there also confirmed he could feel the difference in ride when changing between the modes when he took it out. After driving it on various road surfaces over the next month or so I’m surprised that I was previously unable to feel the difference where it’s now so noticeable between modes. I think it just came down to more time driving on different surfaces that lent themselves better to feeling the differences.1 point -

Thanks GBB. Yes i'm definitely going to look into a Stage 1, Intake, Inlets and Decat/Downpipes me thinks 👍 🙂.. Possibly some rims, not too sure if i like the Cadiz 18's, much prefer the Prets, however they are few and far been between on used estates, juts like the leather which seem to be like gold dust! I really wanted a Panroof and leathers, so i happy i have those at least i guess. Any one got any recommendations on rims which will suit Lapiz Blue R Estate?1 point -

Depends if you can haggle a good deal on the 2019. You’d get a lot of depreciation on a mk8 too. Personally, I’d go for the 2019 because of the interior and cost cutting on the mk8 but each to their own! Test drive a mk8 if one becomes available then decide. You buy the car to enjoy it which is why I shall miss mine if I sell it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk1 point -

^This. The primary consideration would be that the wheel can be satisfactorily repaired, based on a reputable wheel refurbishment company’s view, and that the repaired wheel would be safe. If there’s any doubt over whether an effective, safe repair can be made by someone skilled and qualified to do such a repair, then replacement is the only way forward IMO. If the cost of a genuine OEM wheel is more than you’d ideally like to pay, then you could always consider getting a set of Spielberg replicas from CMWheels - much cheaper than the price you’ve been quoted by VW for a single OEM replacement; https://cmwheels.com/product/19″-vw-golf-r-spielberg-style-wheels-gloss-black-machined-vw-mk5-mk6-mk7-5x112/1 point -

Who's tried Pirelli P Zeros
goodbadboy reacted to DustyBones for a topic
Mine came with the Pzero's, they are absolutely fine for normal driving or when pushing on a fair bit. However that was when the weather was good and they have loads tread (only done 6K since new back in the summer) Cant comment on cold greasy roads as I swap to a full winter setup (Cadiz + Michelin Alpins 5's ftw👍). But I suspect that if pushing on during the winter you will find the Pzeros limits quite quickly as they are a summer focused tyre. When they are ready for change, I will no doubt go for the PS4S. Drive safe folks on the crappy winter roads.1 point -

My R has 19" wheels, and I can definitely tell the difference in DCC settings, from Comfort (less harsh on sharp bumps, more body roll), through Normal to Race (harsher on bumps, less body roll). Maybe yours isn't working properly ? Have you tried playing around in the Individual driving mode to see if you notice the difference ?1 point -

Not much to report. Got a resonator delete from Shak in November sales and had it fitted. Delighted with the outcome, just enough extra aggression to the exhaust note and very little drone. Have the car a year last week and still loving it. No other mods planned really, these are so good as stock imo. Will need new front brakes and will look into clutch upgrade when required but for now the stock clutch is holding up fine. Sent from my MAR-LX1A using Tapatalk1 point

Welcome to the forum mate! I myself was lucky to get one with dcc but honestly I can’t tell the difference when driving in comfort or any other mode maybe because I’ve got 19s but who knows. Maybe they only work well with 18s? Good luck with your search 🤞1 point

Yeah, the decats also add a level of rasp (in my opinion) so I went Scorpion 80mm with sports cat onto stock system. I did have it de-res'd to start with but I switched back to the stock resonator as we were supposed to go to the Alps again on holiday and the wife complained it was too loud for the length of journey. As it is its just a bit louder and deeper than stock. Unicorn are well thought of, as are MRC (they did alot to my old RS4 for me). Personally I prefered the service from Unicorn so would recommend them over MRC. Nothing bad to say about MRC though, just personal preference. Pikey mod is to take out the snow grate from the bottom of the air box, and to cutvout the front inlet to the airbox. Turbo elbow or TIP is a larger diameter elbow that connects the inlet pipe from the top of the air box to the turbo. Various companies make them, forge, Turbo Technics, to name a couple. Some are a whole new pipe and turbo connection, and others are a metal elbow that connects to the stock pipe and turbo. I used to have an RS6 quite a few cars back (M5, RS4, EvoX, A45, and now Golf R), but may get one to replace the R in '22 but who knows[emoji4][emoji106] Sent from my SM-N960F using Tapatalk1 point

I've been reading about and it appears some of these reservoirs are double skinned which means you can't remove the silicate container. Others are single skinned and have a bag which can be removed. Found this during my search: Part number 5Q0 121 407A 1.2 and 1.4 1.6 2.0 litre engines From 2012 onwards. This can have silicate bag. Part number 5Q0 121 407D 1.2 and 1.6 litre diesel engines late 2012 onwards This has silicate bag. Part number 5Q0 121 407A 1.8 litre engine up to mid 2014 This has silicate bag. Part number 5Q0 121 407G 1.8 litre engine after mid 2014 up until roughly early/mid 2019 I think. This can have I think the semi sealed inner chamber containing the silicate, possibly unable to remove ? Part number 5Q0 121 407T From late 2018 or early 2019 to roughly early/mid 2020 Semi sealed inner chamber containing the silicate cartridge, possibly unable to remove. Part number 5Q0 121 407M From early/mid 2020 onwards. This new design has no silicate inside bag or cartridge.1 point

My NCZ paddles turned up today. This was the second pair dispatched to me after the first pair were returned to sender due to a postcode error that the sender can’t work out how it happened. The second set was also delayed and when I checked the address on the package I received yet another incorrect postcode was on the label but this time it got through to me. The sender has been in contact throughout this saga and eBay got involved to investigate what was going on. Myself and the sender are none the wiser as to how this all happened as they checked the postcode all the way along the process from their end. The only saving grace is that after eBay got involved eBay decided to issue me a full refund including duty. So it looks like I’ve got a new set of paddles for FREE! 😀1 point

I have had about 4 cars with voice control and tbh I find it more of a gimmick than useful. even getting it to call someone can mess up. its even worse if others are in car as you need to ask them to be quiet. oh and having a Geordie accent really is fun. make sure if you have an accent that the dealer updates the software. i think VW have a Jock pack, Geordie pack, Cockney pack and West Country pack, apparently there was a Scouse pack but someone nicked it..1 point
