  1. Thanks for all your words of support! I’ve seen all sorts of success stories everywhere and it’s heartening to see so much support! This condition afflicts the young as well as me and if they can do it, I’m sure I can! Going to treat myself to a drive out in the R tomorrow as it’ll probably be a while before I feel up to it again! I’ll keep you in the loop as much as possible and once again, thanks for all your support![emoji123] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    Blown Engine @ 21,000 miles

I think 2 things need to be addressed , firstly when you say the engine has blown , that could mean a lot of things , from a blown turbo , to upper engine failure to engine block failure , can you be a bit more specific? secondly , VW are always going on about not honouring warranties if a car shows a TD1 or it’s been modified, so I would suggest if you have proof the car was modified before they sold it to you I would deffo be landing this at their door ! the only sticking point is the 12 odd months you have owned it , they could argue you have modified it in that time period , but again depends what has actually happened to your engine , without knowing that it would be hard for us to give you a proper way forward 👍

  4. As @Shug says, and I suggest, take it back & tell the seller to fix it. Under law, it’s their responsibility, not yours. All they have to do is provide a card for you.

    Don't do drugs

Yeah and odds always in their favour. Not on same scale as OP, but one property I had an iron imprint in the middle of the lounge carpet. Was 3 years old and most the agent could keep was £50, as only small percentage of carpet damaged. How the hell can you replace a small part of a carpet? Whole thing needs replacing. Was discussing with agent and suggested if I’d have know I would have run a Stanley knife over the tenants bonnet and given him £20 as the scratch was less than 0.5% of the panel. Had another where fridge that was new when they moved in the previous year had been dented on the side and the door, paint gone and looking really crap. Again could only get £40 as only a small part damaged. what annoys me is my places are mint or as close as I can get them when new tenants move in. If they advise an appliance breaks I replace with new the next day or as soon as I can get delivered and fitted. Even had one who called the agents 24 hr helpline as light in hall wasn’t working. Emergency sparkie attended and bulb was blown. They got the call out fee for that one though...

As someone who had been kicking in doors for at least 20 years as a policeman ... a bar like this makes it incredibly difficult ! I went and bought them for my flat doors when I realised how good they were !! Any normal wooden door will go in with maybe 2 kicks and people don't realise how easy it is. Really old wooden doors from proper decent old houses are somewhat more resilient !! UPVC I wouldn't even try with multi locking without an enforcer ... but they weren't about when I used to put the doors in !!

  10. I’d take the stance that it’s the dealer’s responsibility to provide a working sat nav, in a car you just purchased. Worst case, the SD cards are roughly £70 from the dealerships. Given the size of your recent purchase, I’d suggest they swallow that cost. Alternatively open a case with VW UK customer service. VW assures owners on its website that free updates are available for Discover & Discover Pro. I recently tried several methods (direct & from the web page) as well as different computers (PC and Mac) and failed repeatedly. I now have a case with VW as I’m unable, thanks to their shonky software and checksum errors, to update my system.

  11. Calm down ...give someone a chance to reply. 🤣 Welcome to the forums. Below is an image of the folders on my genuine Nav SD Card. This I updated just last week via Discovercare, so yours should look the same. Don’t extract anything, just place it in the drive and give the system time to read it! If your system is working, it’ll load. BTW: Unless you have the "Pro" version of the system with built in hard drive, you have to leave the card in the slot 24\7.

  12. Ok folks. Thought I would update this. My heart wasn’t in the Lapiz blue, beautiful car and colour but I knew I wanted something less common, at least in Northern Ireland I figured out none of the VW dealers here don’t actually advertise their new cars, so on Thursday I rang them all to see what they had. There was a lot to choose from but only one worth going to see, who also had grey TCR. Contacted dealer who I had semi agreed the deal for the Lapiz and told him I was going to test the other 2 cars before I made my final decision. Friday afternoon I flew home from London and went straight to the dealer at 4pm. Drove the TCR which was great.. really great but the grey wasn’t for me. The black features really make the car stand out but I know I would get sick looking at them. In the showroom sat a metallic black R... this was the one! Deep Pearl Black Pan roof Vienna Leather Spielberg wheels 90% tints Didn’t drive it, signed my life away @ 5.15pm after a lot of haggling! Cherished transfer registered @ 5.30pm after I took out a new insurance policy while I the sales person was completing paper work. Ended up getting just over 15% discount (including finance contribution) along with 2 years free servicing. There was no one to make the plates for the car so had to drive the 75 miles back this morning to collect it. Here she is. Sorry for the essay. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Hello from a new owner!

Hi everyone. I have been trawling the forum for a good month prior to buying my Golf R. The comments and advice has been brilliant. I have now purchased my R so have officially joined! I have bought a limestone grey estate, MY16, DSG, Pretoria’s, Pan Roof, DCC, leather, Pro Nav, Dynaudio, Keyless and Reverse camera. Only had it two days so getting used to everything which is fun. Hope to learn lots and then get to the point of being able to contribute and help others. Thanks! Ash.

  15. Trap will always be a little lower taking a positive gradient. Took the car to Santa Pod earlier this year (seats out) and struggled for grip off the line but still managed an 11.4s 119.5 MPH Was quietly confident it was going to be much quicker but Pod is a different game to on the road.

  17. The APR TCU tune 6spd on stage 2 has been very good. I suspect their DQ381 has been well tested to work in harmony with their HO Stage 1/2 tunes. A great combo for road and circuit Trouble is I keep pondering on the new A45 but I hear there have been some teething issues on the A35

    Blown Engine @ 21,000 miles

Sorry to hear that mate IMO for VW to sell an approved vehicle with low mileage and the engine has blown shortly after the Das Walt warranty has ended is not on at all, I would expect them to find the reason for the failure, if it was user error like wrong oil or letting it go dry then fair enough but if it was serviced correctly (by VW) then there is no reason for it to go so early. To hear it’s been previously mapped without them knowing is a slap in the face given the circumstances, I would definitely put a complaint in. Hope you get the support.

  25. Thoroughly enjoyed reading through this thread - some eclectic rides! I'm also a keen rider with a couple of steads alongside the R. The Road bike: A 90's Clamont frame from Australian Frame builder Geoff Scott. Lovely Columbus steel frame with some stunning lugs. Decided to go down the old with a blend of new with the build, with an Ultegra group-set and Mavic rims. It's my daily (I'm lucky to be able to commute along the Yarra river in Melbourne to work and back each day), but also enjoy getting out for a longer ride at the weekends. The MTB: A 2017 Canyon Spectral Al 7.0. Lovely piece of kit this. Full SRAM groupset, including Eagle drive-train, Renthal bars and Mavic rims/hubs. Plenty of decent trail here in Victoria - spent today getting nice and muddy at Wombat State forest! I really enjoy riding both; reading through this thread hasn't helped with the niggling that I 'need' a carbon disc road weapon for those special weekend rides! Cheers all!

  27. Go back and demand some sort of resolution. You brought the car In good faith that it was untouched. You may need to speak to vw uk to escalate if you dont get the right answers. Also did you make any payments on credit card you may have protection via your that. Pasted from resolver website Your protection when buying a car from a garage If you buy a new car or a used car from the dealer and something goes wrong with it, you’ll have extra protection if you bought it through: Hire purchase You have protection under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. The vehicle should be of satisfactory quality, fit for its purpose, and as described. With hire purchase, it is the finance provider rather than the dealer who is legally responsible to you if there are problems with the car. Using a credit card If you paid all or part of the cost of your car by credit card, the card company and the trader may be jointly responsible for compensating you under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974. Find out more about how you’re protected if you pay by credit card. Sent from my SM-N960F using Tapatalk

  28. Yeah my first R had standard mib2 it was a 16 plate, current one had an mib1 Pro and although the sound quality and unit were better I wanted AndroidAuto and it wasn't possible with that one so bought a CP removed mib2 Pro. I bought everything as a bundle although all I needed was the actual unit as I already had the 8" screen and fascia in the car. Complicated even more as I had upgraded fro 6.5" to 8" screen in my old R and swapped it back after the accident so I ended up with... an mib1 pro, and mib2 pro, 2 fascias and 3 screens! I sold a screen and fascia for £250 which made the upgrade around £400. Still following? Last week I bought a newer style 8" glass screen and fascia so I now have 2 fascias and 3 screens (2 old and one new) again as well as the 2 units! I would always keep my mib1 pro that is 'mated' to the car at least as long as I have warranty and take the car to VW as the mib2 shows up as CP removed and if VW decided to update or it or do anything to it then I would lose all the functions on it that the car isn't registered to have I.e. Androidauto/voice etc etc... Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk

  29. IIRC the latest APR ECU stage 1 tune for the Mk7.5 R sets the auto stop/start to "OFF", and if you press the button it changes to "ON". Edit:"New for 2019, the auto start-stop feature is now disabled by default, and can be enabled by clicking the button!"https://www.goapr.com/

    Vibration at speed

For future reference, a 'bad' wheel bearing is never the cause of a vibration that's only felt at motorway speeds. You will know a bad bearing as it will start making a growling noise either from stop or 20mph upwards.....depending on the way it has failed you may get a vibration, but if you do it will be at lower speeds as well as higher. Alignment also never fixes this sort of vibration....not unless the wheels are so far out of alignment it looks like a clown car. Sometimes with a wheel problem you will get a rhythmic vibration when travelling at a steady speed - that comes on , then goes, comes back etc, this is usually a sign of 2 wheels out of balance/round on the same axle. The vibration pulsating over a few seconds period as one wheel starts to cancel the vibration from the other out as they momentarily synchronise out of phase.

    Car drying

Experimenting (on my nippers car) with the spotless water. Quick wash and then sprayed the whole car twice and left to air dry in the sun. Result ! So Im not going to be able to cheat and not dry the car, it works but I will still be towel drying because if you miss one spot you get left with water marks ! I was not able to get enough flow from the sprayer to get the water to sheet off especially as my drive is flat. Wheels have air dryed well no water marks Will I be using it on my golf, yes but I want to find a small pump to increase the water flow

  43. @camelsac2002 you can do this. It’s a long road with all sorts of emotions and humps. Make good use of the unit Macmillan nursing team for support, listen to your body and be utterly selfish; only do what you want to do. It’s a journey of highs and lows. My best tip is to go one step at a time & don’t try to see too far down the line. After all, how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Every journey is different, but if you need to talk, pm me. I’m nearly five years out from my remission from Lymphoma.

  46. I'll be honest, I'm not keen on the whole "self policing" dash cam thing. I get they are great if you have an RTA but shopping every little thing just doesn't sit well with me. I'm not implying this is what you mean either, just giving my opinion on dash cams. If you watch all the "bad driving" dash cam vids on youtube you can see some twonks seem to try and make bad situations happen. Just so they can make a clip. They seem to drive ultra aggressively without any normal thought or courtesy. Just because they have dash cam fitted they feel they rule the road. Sent from my S9 using Tapatalk

Not the best....Just slightly better than average......but if someone in a Ford or any car was right up my a**...I'd floor it...and lose them...LIke I've been doing for the last 30 years.......It would to be a pretty fast car to catch a re-mapped Golf R on the road.....especially a curvy B-road...

For me, in my area - it's the opposite. Every 7 / 7.5R i have seen looks stock....i've seen some pretty garish focus ST's and a couple of RS's in horrid luminous green, with massive spoilers and chav wheels. As that post that asked everyone's age range said - i think the R's avg age driver is in their 40's Maybe ya picked up on some of the new breed of R owners moving in, i.e. 'youngsters' who are picking up some old base spec 7R's and modding them, now that it's 5 years old and moved into their budget range.
